Need some help in Dallas

Took the car to get inspected on Friday, and my brights wont come on. The switch moves, but does not click the brights on. Anyone know a good shop to get this changed at? The dealer wants $215 just for labor....and I will be damned if I do that. Can anyone point me in some direction? I live right by downtown Dallas if anyone knows somewhere around here. Also, I have 15 days from the inspection date to get it fixed so I can get it re-inspected for free.

TIA

if you tilt your wheel all the way down it should turn the brights on. mine has been that way about years, to lazy to fix. if you look under the dash on the sterring column you sould find a rod on the top side that goes from the lever down to a switch held on the column be a 2 small bolts(about a 5/16 or 8mm head, somewhere around that size anyway). loosen the 2 bolts and slide the switch up just a small bit. should only have to loosen the bolts about a turn or so, and dont forget to tighen them back up. you should only move the switch about 1/8 inch or maybe less.

im sure shoebox has a diagram on his website.

Man, I tried the whole range..... no worky for me. I will look at that rod... but i am not looking for success. I would rather just get it fixed, just not for $215 labor.

Platinumta-PM sent

Viperkiller-I tried the wheel all the way down (and I mean ALL the way down), pulled the lever with some force and they came on. I am in school right now, will be attempting the "mod" you described later. Thanks for the input.

You don't need to have "bright" lights to pass inspection, just the regular driving lights. This might be the same kind of shop that tells you you can't pass w/ a torn windshield wiper blade.. When you can - so long as the tear is under 1 inch... Or telling you that you'd fail w/ a cracked windshield. So long as the window crack isn't able to be felt w/ your finger, then you can pass.

Maybe they're just trying to weasel $$ out of you..

That sounds like it's saying that if you have brights that come on, then there has to be some kind of indication that they're on, not that you have to have them.

Dont have to spend the $215. Just needed to move the dimmer switch a little. Thanks for all the input.
