need reputable shop / scan tool

Guys, I am having the hardest time with my overheating problem...see thread at : http://64.4.14.250/cgi-bin/linkrd?_l...goto%3dnewpost

Does anyone know of a reputable shop in the S.A ( go spurs go) area, or even Houston. I am fighting an overheating problem and need someone to narrow my guessing / tell me what to replace, and I'll take it from there. Or perhaps some one with a scan tool / knowledge to help educate me. What I dont want is to have someone guess. I can do that! I need some serious help to help me figure this out. She is imy daily driver, and right now I am scared to drive her.

thanks for your help. This is killing me

Tell us what the problem is, anyone can scan it. I have a scanner, autozone has one and i believe a few other people on here have one. Have you checked your plugs? What does your oil look like or even your radiator fluid? Are your fans coming on?Overheating at idle or on the the go? Your link did not work.

random overheating

Here is the scoop,

the other day, my lt1 over heated. i let it cool down and tried it agian the next day. I made it about 30 miles and then it overheated agian. I let it cool, and made it home with no incident. over the next few days, it randomly overheated several times, with varing milage and driving styles.
I have replaced the t stat, rad cap, filled the rad, bled the system, checked the sensors, the fans, checked the h20 pump, and checked to see if the rad iwas blocked by debris, etc. etc. etc. Everything checked out fine.

What the heck is going on here. I am scared to take this thing across town with such randomness...

I am fairly sure that is not a head gasket or cracked headalso because if so would it not overheat rather quickly and consistantly? just a thought.

Anyway, I have searched around on the net, and can't seem to find a problem quiet like mine, so any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

john

I need to know if the fans are coming on when it heats up????? You know what, just for ****s and grin, change out the sensor on the front of the waterpump. This is called a thermosensor, it controls fans, timing and fuel. It may be your problem if nothing else is evident.

Overheating

I'ts acually just a coolant temp sensor that the computor reads coolant temp and then uses that input along with many ( TPS , IAT , and MAF and/or MAP ) to decide what timing to give the motor , what pulse width for the injectors , and when to turn on the fans. ( There's ALOT more , but WAY to time consuming for right now ! ) The main factors for overheating are , flw through the radiator , is the therostat opening all the way , and are both fans coming on at the right time !! ( Assuming that you don't have a blown head gasket !! ) The only other thing to consider is that have you bled the system properly ?? Also a lean air fuel ratio can cause problems !! Hope some of this helps !!

over heating

No harm, No foul...I am eager to hear anything. From the dumb to the left field. I would never put anything past myself. I have done some dumbs S#%& before. But no. I havent mixed coolants and so far the only way that I have checked the water pump is to observe the weep hole on the bottom of it. The book stated that unless an impeller is broken, most other signs of wear/death can be determined by seeping water from the weep hole.
I spoke to a guy in Austin yesterday at Prewitt Racing. He stated tht it might be a leaking head gasket and not a fully blown on. He went on to say that it could explain the randomness of my problem. Best bet was for me to perform a leak down test or a collant pressure test. This could identify the problem. He also said to pull the plugs. Wet plug = Problem with head / or head gasket.

So that is where I am for today. I'll perform these tests, adn get back to everyone with the results. If you guys think of anything else though, dont be scared to share.

thnaks again

john

PS I also spoke with a guy who state that a 02 T/A ran 11.2 NA with only a TB swap and enlarged exhaust. ????????hmmmmmmm! sounds fishy if you ask me.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! That is a bunch of crap. With a good driver. maybe a 12.7 to a 12.50 out of it, but no more. It would take H/C for that car to run anywhere close to that range.

Good luck though on fixing the problem.
