lost title help

I've had my 85 firebird for 3 months now and have yet to see a title. The guy I got it from says he has the title but he just moved and it's probably still packed away somewhere. I've heard that I can apply for a lost title if I can get a bill of sale from the last person who had the car registered (the guy I got it from never had it registered). Is there somewhere I can find out who last had it registered? That way I can try to track him down and get a bill of sale (even though I didnt buy the car from him).

Cool, thanks man. I thought that might be the way to go but first I have to get my lazy *** off the couch whenever I'm not at work and go there.

Re: lost title help

Wow man, that's a crappy situation. I went through the same thing when I got my old 80 Camaro. The guy kept telling me he would send it when he found it, etc. etc. I went to the registration office and they found out that their was a mechanics lien on the car for over $5,000! So I got another 80 Camaro body from my friends shop and swapped it all over and registered that car and called it a day. Pretty much just used it as a complete donor car. Good luck though, I hope you don't go through what I did.

I'd make the fool who sold you the car supply it - that or he can buy the car back from you. he's the one who lost it afterall.

Well, I only bought the car for $20. So I'm not too worried about it. But still I would like to get a title.

Re: lost title help

That sucks, I bought my Can Am from a friend I've known for almost 15 years, I've owned th car for three years and have yet to see the title. He called and said he found it a few weeks ago, but I still haven't seen it.

I had a guy at a title/tag store told me he could get me a title for $100, just to write up a bill of sale.
