Post I feel I got hosed !!!!

Hey guys I recently got new wires, and plugs for my car, because of a bad idle.
Well now the car runs great, but the "REAL" bad part is Firestone charged me $700.00 freakin dollars for the install!!! I think that is insane!!! I expected to get a little over charged, but I wasn't ready to get reamed!!! Any advise or quotes would help. I'm gonna fight these fackers if I get enough info to prove the price was too high.

Thanks

Did they tell you how much they were going to charge you before they did the job? Dealers will charge about $100 to put on wires, and another couple hundred to change the plugs.

Yeah. They had said about $500 bucks. I kinda thought that was high, but could live with it, but when I got there, they charged me 700 bucks!!! Also how long would it take for this install?

you have got to be kidding. you left the shop paying that much for a tune up? i wish you would have come to my house- i would have done it for a 3 piece chicken and a biscuit. get a lawyer. tell him the situation. i bet even lawyers dont pay that much for a tune up!
really go back to the place and tell the manager you want to review the bill, because unless you left out some important details- like they also installed a cam! you got focked.
try and break it down. they prolly charged $100 for the wires (autozone $30 or $80)$80 (autozone $2 or $5) for the plugs and maybe $140 for labor and those prices are a bit high.

thats crazy. even the 500 is high. i wouldve done it for 50 bucks and some beer. learn to do this kind of stuff yourself or you will get taken advantage off big time, as you can now see. i think i read a pepboys labor sign once and it said plug changes were around 130 for 8 cylinders, thats crazy.

Wow. Now that's a pokin'. I don't know that I'd do it for a "3 piece and biscuit" but add a twelve pack and $50 and you got yourself a tune up. $700? That's insane. I'd go ask for a detailed summary of the work they did and the parts they charged you for and tell them "my attorney is requesting it". Then say (acting somewhat ignorant about the whole thing) "I think he's gonna sue you guys." "He said something about contacting your corporate office to make sure he has the names spelled correctly of the people to be named in the suit."

Dude what the hell were you thinking, **** I paid 500 for heads install. You should have asked on the board to see if anyone would do it before going to someplace for install. Hell even for headers install many of us have done it more than once and would be willing to do for way less than what they charge. Sorry man but do ask for a complete review of the bill and try to talk to a lawyer. Ask for hourly rates, price of wires, taxes, everything. And the names of all who worked on your car. Hope everything works out.

Thanks for making me feel even more stupid. The only reason I didn't ask for help from one of yall is because I didn't have time to I was bogged down with work.

I plan on fighting this, and soon.

Thanks for the advise, and cracks

700 bucks is ridiculous, as is 500.

However, if they quoted you 500 bucks for plug and wire change and you accepted it by signing the work order, you are pretty much SOL, I think. Sorry.

Sure, hire a lawyer. However, he is going to cost you money, too.

Somebody working at a dealership correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they charge around 400-500 bucks for the job, too...?

I'm sure you learned a lesson here, didn't you?

Later!

Dude, I just realized you were in S.A. What Firestone was this? Give me an addy, I'd like to go get an estimate.

If given the same deal you got, I'll rip the manager a new one. I'm good like that. I'll embarrass him so bad his momma will have to spend the next few nights with him to encourage him to "retract that bottom lip" and return to work like a good little boy.

If you agreed to $500, tell them you'll pay the 500. Where did the other $200 come from?
Contact a dealer and ask what the labor (time) is to change plugs and wires on your car. Then find out what the labor rate/hr is at that Firestone and see if it adds up. The way I understand it is that jobs have a set time that they can charge for, so if they do a 2hr job in 1hr they can charge 2hrs, but if that job takes 4 hrs they can still only charge 2hrs labor.
