Got one of those smog letters in the mail today

You know those road-side smog testing stations? Ya well supposidly my car is a "high emitter" so I need to go pay $20 to have my car tested and verified. I think that **** is soo stupid. What if a car in front of me was the "high emitter" and just so happened my car passed by after words? I did a tune up like 2 weeks before it happened and I have no codes or anything. Im mad

It was at the Hwy 6 and I-10 entrance ramp BTW.

Yes they do in fact exist. They are those vans that park on the side of the entrance ramp to the freeways.

I don't think there is anything you can do. Luckily I need a state inspection next month so the test and inspection will the the same price so I just may wait.

If you don't comply, it is first a $350 fine and then it becomes a felony.

Thank god I'm building a '71!!!

Gasoline-powered vehicles from two through 24 years old are tested beginning with the vehicle's second model year anniversary.

Can't you just shut the car off and coast by one of the those? Or can they see that you are emitting no exhaust?

You shouldn't need to shut off the car, just don't accelerate if you see a suspicious van by the side of the road.
And how can they fine you for not complying if you claim you have not received any letter? Or did it come certified?
