2004 Gto
2004 Gto
So what does everyone think about this new Goat coming out?
First off, it sucks there's no hood scoop, but I hear they are going to offer some performance catalog with a few different hoods available. I'm a die hard Pontiac guy and the no scoop thing really bothers me. Interior looks pretty trick. I talked with Jim Wangers (did the marketing for the original GTO) and he said it feels like an old school big block so I'm pretty excited to drive it. Has anyone driven one of these yet?

Don't worry. The aftermarket for these cars will probably be just as big as the F-bodies. A hood scoop will eventually be just a phone call to suncoast creations away.
I'm stoked! Now if I just had the cash...
Anyone know what the MSRP on the GTO is supposed to be?

I've heard rumors of a "Judge" or some-other-name model upgrade that may be out in a year or so (probably depending on sales) that might feature an LS6, ram air, etc....

Note: I'm not claiming this is true, just mentioning that I've heard it...
Even without that - I like 'em...just not enough to trade in my f-body for one...

At the Firehawk Fest in OH this summer I talked to this guy w/SLP (I think it was Ed's son) and he said that they had some big things coming for the car and that he couldn't even say anything about it until the press release. It would make sense for them to do a Judge or a Ram Air car, just like the Firehawks.
I did read in High Performance Pontiac that they are definitely going to have a scooped/blistered hood for 2005. I would almost want to wait for that one.
It's just the 30-40 large keeping me from one....

GTO, is that how you spell grand am???? I'm sorry but I think GM has screwed up big time. They're going to stop producing the trans am and camaro then come out with this, PLEASE! I think that they are just trying to pull one over on everyone by putting a large engine in a ugly car. They think everyone will just love it because they pretty much have know other GM car, besides corvette, to choose from. Just my 2 cents.
I see your point, it doesn't look like a screamer at all....
A big motor in a small (ugly or not) car.....
Isn't that what the 1964 GTO was based on?
Don't get me wrong, I think GM could have done MUCH better, but the principle is the same isn't it?

When the GTO came out way back when it wasn't being named after another car. The concept back then was everyone was building the box type cars with hardly any style and craming big motors in them. In this day and age you would think they would come out with something a little more original looking or at least not name it the GTO. I think that it is an insult to the old GTO owners out there to have a run of the mill grand am trying to be passed off as some nostalgic car. Think about it the only rear drive vehicle gm would have right now is the vette if it wouldn't be for this GTO. I also think that Ford is kicking GM's *** with upgrading the mustang and chrysler is coming out with all these new designed vehicles that is really hurting GM. Gm was the one that made the stupide decision to quit making the trans am and camaro so now they are running around trying to get some market back.
The GTO or Holden Monaro has nothing to do with a Grand Am. they are two totally different platforms.
The Monaro platform (or whatever it is officially called) is suposedly superior in quality and much more advanced than the F-bodies are. Just look at it and its not hard to agree.
I agree partially with the gripes about renaming it GTO, but at least they didn't do it like the Impala or Monte. Once these things get out there running 12s and faster with some bolt-ons they'll look the part.
I personally like them alot. It would sure be nice to have actually have some upscale materials used in the F bods interiors, such as the GTO's.

87FAKE,
Have you seen pictures of this New car. I know its based on the holden being made in Australia but dude please tell me its not a DEAD RINGER for a grand am. That was my point that it was just an overpriced grand am with an LS1 stuffed under the hood.

its the impala SS of this decade. if i was in the market for a new LS1, i'd buy it. a stoker motor and spray, and its ready. depending on what kind of rear end it has, maybe a set of 3.73's. i am really suprised that people aren't taking too well to this car.
It's hard top get excited about this new looking car, when the retro mustang is coming out in a year. I think the car is okay, and might be able to look great with a few ad on's, but I think it would have looked a hell of a lot better if they went for a retro look like ford is doing- anyone see that retro lincoln concept (looked like a 63)- it was F'ing sweet! If they would have went retro every old school guy would have bought one. If you compare it to the new cars out there, then it's a cool ride, but it doesn't replace the F-bod.
Also, what's up with the GTO emlem? I would have thought for sure they would have pt the ones off of an early goat on it. The new ones are ugly as.... If I get one that's the first thing to go!
Just useless info- Pontiac stole the name GTO from Ferarri cause they thought it sounded cool. So the first one was named after another car.

First off, I like the styling of the older cars (60's & 70's).. I own a 68 and a 70 camaro
BUT
Don't brag on Ford's retro stuff.. the Thunderbird is already history because no one bought them
The new GTO looks like a Grand Am/Grand Prix because that is the "family" styling that Pontiac wants to promote (just like BMW, Mercedes, Lexus.. you name it. People buy those "look-alike-cars)
Before you can get anything close to "retro" styling you'll have to get the Govt. to change their crash and emission standards.. good luck on that
Don't think you can get past the mid 30K price tag?? Anyone price the last camaro/firebirds ? Don't even mention a SS or Firehawk.. or how about a Z71?
Do a search on the Holden brand.. heck, look thru Cardomain readers rides.. there is some nice stuff out there already.
So many people cried when the Impala SS was dropped, well this new GTO will stomp the SS in every field.. and will probably run with most stock F-bodies..
I like them, and have been patiently waiting for them to hit the dealership so I can check it out in person and drive it. Pictures never do a car justice, and they have some pretty neat interior options too.

And GM stopped producing the F-body b/c they weren't selling that well, and since the market is shifting for more of a demand for trucks and SUV's there was no justification for the expenses of developing a pony car who's sales have been steadily dropping the last few years.
texlurch, i agree with you 100% Let's just hope the build quality will be much better than the F-bodies was.
Texlurch, I agree w/you on the T-bird, the car just looks soft, total chick car- but, I don't see why they would have to change the crash test and emission standards to make a car "look" retro. I don't think it should have a big block and aluminum body panels- I just think it should have a hint of retro stying....
Oh yea, you can't tell me Fords retro concept don't look cool. I'm not a Ford guy by any means, but they have some cool s**t in the works.
Ive seen it in person several times, it's not as wild looking as a WS6 or SS, but then again I'm not sure it's supposed to be.
Mid 30's isn't bad, I was just saying it wasn't worth that to me.
