Looking for a reliable 3rd gen in Chicago area.
Hi guys. I'm posting this because, I know we'll all run across a car for sale, which we are not in the market for at the time -and say "Gee, I wish I knew someone who'd be interested in this". So keep this thread in mind if you could, over the next few weeks
I'm looking for a 3rd gen - preferably a Camaro, but will consider a Firebird. Needs to be reliable and safe, since I want to drive it to Indy in September.
Ideally, I guess, I'm looking for something kind of different. Maybe an '82-'84, F41, Sport Coupe, or an '82/'83 Crossfire. How about a 4 speed Iron Duke? I haven't seen one of those since - ummm- 1982.
Anyways, I want to keep it local, I live in the Chicago western suburbs. I'll consider any 3rd gen which is clean, safe and reliable.
Thanks in advance guys. And don't be shy about posting.

I'd love to find a an '82 or preferably an '83 (better trans), Z/28 with a Crossfire. I remember driving them when new - YES, they were slow. But it was so cool, when those hoodscoop flaps opened when you floored it, plus they looked cool. That, and the guys at ThirdGen.org are making those Crossfire set-ups really perform nowadays.

And they all seem to be Firebirds.

Just drove a Crossfire today. Slow, but not as slow as I remembered. Actually, it was kinda cool. The flaps worked! Anyway, it's at a Chevy dealer, price-wise, they are on crack. That car's been sitting there for over a year. They've got it advertised as some very mint creampuff, but it's really more of a project car.

Was this the one? I'd definitely check this one out, if it wasn't 2000 miles away.

Santa Rosa is near Sonoma and Napa, do you have any excuse to visit the wine country?

I wonder what it would cost to ship to Chicago? Probably a G-note.

i had a camaro shipped from Washington, to eastern SD and it cost me about 800. That was before fuel went up too.... Prob at least what you're thinkin. Get a free quote, IMO the right car is worth it.
