they are strict here ...you have to pass

anyways, get headers and ORP like i have, but just flange the ORP and the cat so you can interchange them when u take your test. thats what i do...

They are pretty strict, but there's ways around it. OBDII cars get no sniffer, just a plug in, so you can do pretty much whatever you want as long as your pcm is tuned properly for mods. OBDI cars are pretty much screwed...

Unless you live in the sticks like me and don't have to test at all

I live in Chicago, but my car is registered in Champaign at my parents address, where there's no smog check. That's how I get around it. I can't imagine haveing to put that big box of crap back on my car just to pass smog.

Re: How strict are emissions in Chicago?

my friend who has cam and headers passed with a 00 SS

there is also another guy on a local board that has cam headers and patriot heads and he passed too.

he had a 98 Z. i have had to take some cars to the emissions for work and i have not seen anyone walking around with mirrors looking underneath the cars.

i would not worry too much unless you pull up sounding like a funy car.

Re: How strict are emissions in Chicago?

beef cake nice name btw.first emmision in chitown different like earlier stated.if you got odb2,96 up basically, all they do here is plug into comp,if you aint got no codes set off your good to go..if you got obd1,i could be tough cause thats where they sniff it and the standards are as low as newer cars..if you fail your only real option is too try to find a shop to write x amount of repair work for the car and then get a wavier..or if you live outside of effected area then your exempt for now,but be advised they re going to be expanding testing statewide very soon.or i dont know what year ride u have but if its old enough (25) you can get antique plates for it and that makes you exempt anywhere u live..but i d oubt you have a n older z

I have an 01 Camaro SS. I would get the o2 sims if I did run an orp. So as long as I have no codes I still can run the orp at the emissions place?

For the most part, yes. As long as you get the emmissions crap tuned out of your pcm a few weeks before the test you'll be ok, given that you get no SES after that.
