timing cover replacement
 
i have a 94 3.4 camaro. does the oil pan have to be removed to replace the timing cover. to take the car to a mechanic, is it an expensive job?
any info on this would be appreciated.

I don't know much about the 3.4, just the 3.8 ... and the old 2.8 in the third gen cars. I do know that to remove the timing cover on nearly every engine you have to drain your coolant, remove the belt, water pump, harmonic balancer (need a puller for this). There may be some various sensors in the way. Most motors do not require you to drop the oil pan completly or at all, although the timing cover may be bolted to it. At worst you may only have to loosen it.

Anyting taken to a mechanic is an expensive job in my opinion, and since I only go for things I don't have the equipment for such as welding exhaust, mounting tires, wheel alighnments and machine work, I could only guess, but I would think it would run you a few hundred anyways.
