Sister of the 3.8, the 3300 gm engine, keeps dying.

A search on the net shows that the 3.3 (3300) gm engine, does not have a strong following, if any.

Maybe you guys can help me out here since the 3.3 is very similar to the Series I 3800 engine.

The car is a 92' Pontiac Grand Am. The computer isn't throwing any codes. While driving, she is a very strong runner. Revs normal, drives normal, shifts good. But sometimes while driving, it will just stall out. A complete tune-up was done (plugs, wires, filters, etc...). Even replaced the fuel pressure regulator. The engine does not have an EGR valve, otherwise we would've changed it. Any ideas?

Does it stall usually during the same action (ie: stalls when putting it in reverse or stalls after coming to a stop)? I have a 92 cutlass with the 3300 and it sometimes stalls when try to go forward from a complete stop, I think it's a problem with the radiator. Also, does your power go out when the car stalls?

Your right about it not having a strong following! I've never heard of that engine before:o

It appears to only stall out when you get up to speed and let off the gas to coast. The alternator went out on it, so we replaced that, but didn't help the stalling any. The power never really went out on it, even with the bad Alternator (bad bearing). One thing I noticed, is that when it's in park, and the fan goes on, it REALLY takes a lot of power and the engine bogs down, like more than it should. Maybe the fan is causing the engine to die when in drive, because there is a load against it? How can I make it so the fan doesn't draw SO much power when it kicks on? If that don't work, I'll probably attack the EST system. Thanks for the replys!

are you sure its not a 3.8 with the the left side of the 8 rubbed/smudged off to look like a 3?

i've never heard of a 3.3 before. 2.5, 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, 3.8, 4.2, 4.3 those are all 6s.... no 3.3.

The 3.3 went into the coolest cars, that's why you haven't heard of it. The cutlas ciera I have is a real chick magnet.

I don't know what the problem is with the car.

Yes, there is a 3.3L

If it stalled on ya and would start after it sat for a while I'd say fuel pump. The wife's 01 GAGT did that.

We've got one at work in a Buick Regal. Not a bad motor, seems to have enough power for the size of the car.
