Not able to burnout? 3.8L Auto

Re: Not able to burnout? 3.8L Auto
of course 3.4 burns out they have rear drums get the clue. they aren't stronger than the 3.8 get it right. thats all there is to it the later cars have rear disc brakes so only way to burn out is give car more power to rip thru the brakes but who wants to put there safety and driveabilty afterwards in danger. line lock is the way to go to burn out without burning out your brakes and putting more stress on the drive train.

I have a '96 3.8L Y87 (rear-discs and 3.42 gears). When my car was stock I had no problem whatsoever doing a burnout. Tire smoke everywhere. I can't tell you what your exact problem is, but you have a problem. Even with the 3.08 gears, you should have no problem getting them to spin.

My '98 3800 with 3.08 gears could smoke the tires all day long and I only had a catback. BTW, the lack of a cat will NOT keep you from doing a burn out. Why do you want to burn out anyway, are you 16?

im 18... i do notice what my springs are getting a little worn out in the back it feels like.. when i go over a speed bump, it sounds like the back has been lifted in the air and then just thrown down lol.
could this be it?

Re: Not able to burnout? 3.8L Auto
I just found this thread and I'm raising it from the dead! My girlfriend is currently driving her brother's '00 automatic V6 coupe. I went for a ride in it yesterday and she told me "I can't ever get the tires to spin." I tell her, "You gotta do a brake stand!" I'm not sure if it has the Y87 performance package or not, but it does NOT have ASR (traction contol). So after a little research, I think I've found the answer to brink's (and others') problem. The 3.8 v6 engine in the '99-up Camaro has an electronic throttle instead of a regular throttle cable. However, I have not visually verified this yet. So, the computer is basically preventing you/my girlfriend from doing a brake stand, burnout, etc. I'm guessing it doesn't matter if you have an automatic or manual either. This problem is exactly the same on the new '05-up Mustang GT's since the 4.6 v8 has an electronic throttle. I heard Mustang guys can get the computer reprogramed to allow gas+brake mash for smoky burnouts.

yes from 99 and up the V6 has an electronic trottle.....
I have an 3800 V6 with ASR, Y87 and this electronic trottle and 245/45 17" tires...
If I switch off the ASR I have no problem to make an burn out...

I cant believe im joining in on this thread, BUT since my brother did a couple posts up, what the hell. First off, your wanting to do burnouts why? just because you want to right? Do people laugh at you when you do? A one wheel peel power break, isnt to impressive. You have a v6. If you wanted high performance, why do you have a v6? Also, you said that you pushed on your driveshaft a little to make sure your trans bushing wasnt out? Im not positive on this, but i think to check if your trans mount is out, you would have to do more than jiggle your driveshaft....That sounds kinda funny. Jiggle your driveshaft. ANYWAYS. some one above said something about doing burnouts at the track. You sound like the person to go through the water with street tires....another thing, YOUR CAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU DOING BURNOUTS!

Re: Not able to burnout? 3.8L Auto
you have to be smarter than the car.... and obviously you're having problems with that if you were so convinced you needed a cat to have enough torque to do a burnout.. dyno results show what, 2lb/ft 1 hp increase from REMOVING the cat, so if anything, putting a cata back on will make it harder to burnout.
As for your transmission, you have a problem with the stall on it or very low fluid.. OR I think the problem is probably you being dumb and holding the brake too hard.
Even if it was a suspension problem, on my stock 3.4L i could dump the clutch at around 3k on my un modded car wit ha completly torn up tranny mount and roast the tires (tire).
