ASR w/o Switch

I know this question has been asked before, however, in my case there is a variable not mentioned in any of the other threads: I'm fairly certain my car ('98 Camaro V6 M5) actually has ASR because the "Low Traction" light will illuminate during heavy breaking in wet conditions. Without ASR, that light does not come on as it only illuminates when the system is at work to provide extra traction. However, there obviously isn't a switch to turn it off. Additionally, after popping off the IP bezel during the installation of an aftermarket Kenwood receiver yesterday, I noticed that I do have the plug that hooks up to the ASR Off switch.

So what do you think? Will the switch actually do anything?

I would say your "low trac" light comes on during hard braking in rain because your ABS is doing that, not ASR. All cars have ABS. I doubt you have ASR if you dont have the switch.

what does ASR stand for anyway? I have it on mine.

Well ... it seems your right. Straight from the owners manual on page 2-81:

When your anti-lock system is adjusting brake pressure to help avoid a braking skid, this light will come on.
I feel like an idiot.

ASR stands for Acceleration Slip Regulation and is basically Camarospeak for "traction control."

Okay, anyhow, rather than start another thread, will the gauge bezel from a F4 Firebird fit the gauge cluster in a '97 and up Camaro? I use to own a '98 Firebird and the gauge layout is exactly the same as the one in my '98 Camaro, sans the bezel, so I don't see why it wouldn't fit.

And I don't think the owner's manual has an answer for this one on page 8-90. :p

You're talking about that nice litttle trim piece that goes around the speedo and tach right? yes, it will fit, they also came on 2000 and newer SS camaros but not on the base camaros.

Good deal and thanks for the info. I found a F4 graveyard two counties away from me, so I'm going to swipe the bezel when I swap my dingy old cloth interior out for a nice ebony black leather one.
