ok guys, i have a 95 3.4L camaro.. Last night i was driving and the check gauges light comes on so i look around n see my volts gauge has dropped by a significant amount. i turn the car around n go home.. thought maybe it was a loose connection at the battery terminal, but theyre all tight.. we used a voltmeter on the battery and it was getting 12.5 volts which is alright.. im almost positive its the alternator (cars got 123xxx miles on body n 3k on engine) what do u think?

 

u only have 3k on the engine and ur alternator is going bad? or is it rebuilt? 123k on the alternator?

 

If your car starts up with no problem, it is the alternator.

And since you already tested the voltage on it, it is 99.9% likely it is your alternator.

It is easy to replace though.

 

my alternator crapped out on me last week,(volts guage kept spiking, finally stayed at 10 and started droping)
took me about 10 minites to change it

 

yea theres 123k on the alternator.. i have a jasper rebuilt block.. i was pretty sure it was the alternator because for the past few months the volts would spike all the time..the car does start up fine so i guess i'll throw in a 160 amp alternator in to keep her happy.. thanks guys

 

put in the new alternator and shes all good.. thanks guys
