3800 v6 rod knock

I purchased a 97 camaro last november from a repo guy for 1500, it had 130000 miles on it. about a month later it began to overheat frequently, and not long after that did i have a pair of blown head gaskets. i replaced the head gaskets but the engine isnt the same. Cylinder 3 has a missfire and there is a "tick" noise coming from the engine. It idles ok, but that is when the ticking noise is most prevelant. Once i get the car going it drives fine and the noise disapates. Any ideas on what it might be. I've changed the oil several time since then and checked it for metal shavings, luckily i havent found any. I've used marvel mystery oil a few weeks ago, but that hasnt done much. ANy ideas would be greatly appreciated because this week i am planning on pulling off the valve covers and looking myself.

Doesn't sound like a fuel or ignition problem.... so I'll move it to the "V6 Tech" forum.

check the lifters when you have it taken apart. that's probably the source of the ticking noise. as far as the mis goes have you changed the plugs since you blew the head gaskets? if not i would have changed them already with it overheating and all. it's possible the plug got too hot and won't fire correctly. change the plugs and see if it still misfires. those are my two tips on it. Hope it helps. Good luck
