Re: 3.4 horsepower increase

I have done the follwing and from stock I felt a big difference.

K&N CAI ($289.99)
Pacestter 3.4L full cat-back ($400.00 installed)
J.E.T underdrive pulley ($69)
Stock LT1 one piece driveshaft ($10)
J.E.T. 160* thermostat ($15)

I used my 93 3.4 auto as an everyday driver as well. The car was a real turd stock..this woke it up.

Re: 3.4 horsepower increase

Guys,
We are going back a while here. No times on my 93 3.4L but I can tell you that when I got it is was in mint shape but was a real turd. I mean slow as you can get. I seriously beleive the car was no quicker then my 91 Cavalier with the 2.2L.

It is still no rocket but it does move out 10x better with that stuff then when I got it.

The test vehicle was a 95 3.4L Camaro. Stock we ran a 16.3 I belive. After a pulley, CAI, 160thermo the car ran 15.9. This is WITH stock exhaust. I think my 93 is somewhere in the 15.7-8 range.

The driveshaft is stock steel one from a 94 LT1. Anything more then $10 and that is considered a rip-off!

Check out the Parts for Sale forum, I have seen several go for that price. When I upgrade mine, it will most likely go in the garbage can as ten bucks isn't worth my time to package and ship it.

Yea, but wouldn't aluminum be better? I didn't know upgrading to an LT1 steel driveshaft would help.

Re: 3.4 horsepower increase

I think that any type of reduction in rotating mass helps free up HP. Did you ever hold the stock 2-piece V6 driveshaft? Heavy. Yes, the 1LE 2.75" or 3" LS1 aluminum shaft would be better than the stock LT1 shaft...but that one is way better IMO then the V6 2-piece.

The stock V6 is a 2-piece because of the lentgh of the engine. Requires a more drastic angle then the V8 version (2-pieces allows this as there is another joint). However, I have had no problems for like 40K miles with the LT1 shaft.

I got mine from a local guy 5min from my house for $10. Took 10 minutes to install.

Sure but the aluminum shaft is in my TA,my Firebird gets the hand me downs from the TA that way I can mod it on the cheap.

I have a set of 35/25 swaybars for the TA so the 'Bird will get the 32/21 combo, when I do the Bilsteins the "Bird will get the 45,000 mile shocks from the TA:)

An aluminum driveshaft is also gonna cost some money. Ive seen them go from $300-800.

Re: 3.4 horsepower increase

I think you guys should think about this. The single most thing you can do with out making any modifications to your motor is, gears. Put a nice set of 3:73 gears in there, and your car will feel like you added a crazy amount of horsepower. Unfortunately there is not a whole lot of "bolt ons" ie: cai, exhaust, for these motors. Yes things look good on paper but by the time it gets to the the wheels..not much horsepower left. Yes weight reduction helps, but that can be costly. I heard some guys putting a nice set of flowing heads on but to really use those heads to fullest potential more bolt ons are needed. So again....look into gears.
