120MPH to 150MPH Instrumnent Cluster

I'm new to the forum, I had a 1994 Z28 about 6 years ago, and I just got a 2001 Camaro Conv. (3.8 V6) I'm wanting to change the 120 MPH Instrumnent Cluster , to a Z 28 150MPH Instrumnent Cluster . Can this be done with out a lot of trouble? and what info can you tell me about the change? This is a great forum a lot of good info.
Thank, Unc. Sam

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...threadid=21774 A guy in this thread says that he put a Z28 cluster in his friends 99 V6 Camaro and everything worked properly. So it would probably work for your 2001, I don't know if the same goes for the 3.4l.

THIS IS A REPLY I GOT FROM CAMARO@YAHOOGROUPS.COM
Looking in my Helm's service manual it looks somewhat complicated to do the actual replacement. 1 disable the SIR system(airbags, because you don't want them inflating while you're unplugging harnesses), 2 remove the under dash closeout panel, 3 the knee bolster, 4 loosen the steering column support nuts and lower the steering column, 5 remove the IP cluster trim bezel and then, 6 remove IP cluster. Then it says " When installing a new IPC it must be synchronized to the inflatable restraint sensing and dagnostic module. In order to synchronize the new cluster, using a SCAN TOOL, perform the following steps: etc etc" Emphasis on needing a scan tool and there was a warning about the air bags being able to deploy up to 10 minutes after disabling the system. If you don't already have the new IP I'd spend my money on mods that people might notice or that might get the car to go faster than 125 (I'm assuming it's a six cylinder since it didn't have a 150 mph speedo.) ;-)

Replacing the guage cluster itself is easy, takes maybe a half hour if you are an idiot. 6 screws hold the camaro dash on, the firebird dash slides off. Unhook the neg cable on the battery, pull the dash above the steering wheel off, unscrew the guage cluster, un plug the one harness from the left side, then install is opposite of removal. The V6 EICM puts out a 1 pulse signal and the LT1/LS1 tach needs a 2 pulse signal so your tach will be about 15-20% off.

I had to swap guages when I did my LT1 swap and it was the easiest part, took me about 15-20 minutes.
