Re: ss vs 30000gt
Is the 3000 Gt a VR4? If not the SS will kill him.
If it is a VR4 it all depends on the driver and what mods are on both cars. I've beaten my friends modded 3000 GT VR4 at low and high end but it all depends on the driver. |
Re: ss vs 30000gt
LSI or LT1? If its an lt1 it will be close but the lt1 has the advantage. If its and ls1 then he shouldnt hav eto wory to much aslong as his a decent driver

Re: ss vs 30000gt
Like the others guys have said, you gave not not nearly enough info...first of all is it a vr4(that would be the only model that would compete w/ a 4th gen Fbody)....and is the SS a LT1 or LS1 model...im gonna take a stab in the dark and say its a LS1 ss(98-02) since theres more of those around...w/ both cars being stock the SS will crush the vr4.... if its a LT1 SS(96-97) ill still give the camaro the edge but it will be close

Re: ss vs 30000gt

LS1 will walk it.

Re: ss vs 30000gt
The 3000GT needs all of a downpipe ($300) and a manual boost controller ($50) to run 12.90s in a 5spd car, and 12.70s in a 6spd car. Not exactly a big expenditure.
To go mid 12s like I did, you then have to add bigger injectors ($600) and something to control them (Apexi SAFC for $330). Oh, and rewire the stock fuel pump with 10 gauge wire & a relay ($30). You'll see plenty of owners go out & buy look-good or sound-good mods and never break out of the 13s. That doesn't mean the platform can't - it just means they can't. |
Re: ss vs 30000gt
Cant remember the last vr4 I saw on the road...and the newer ones for sale are still going for a ton of money

Re: ss vs 30000gt
lol the SS will be playing catch-up from the green light. VR4's are wicked off the line and if he knows what he's doing with a shifter should hit low low 13's with ease. Some magazines went high 12's with free mods. From a roll it's SS all the way.

I just got back from the track an hour ago. I have a Rumbler and SLP y-pipe on my car and it didn't do ANYTHING for my 1/4-mile time. I lowered it by lowering my 60'. For a basic cat-back, it doesn't get much more wide-open than a Rumbler or a Loudmouth. I'm convinced a cat-back BARELY makes a difference. The newest VR4 is a mid-13 sec. car. That's a driver's race with an LS1. If both drivers know what they're doing the winning car won't win by a mile. http://popularmechanics.com/popmech/...7AUCTBM.html#9 |
Re: ss vs 30000gt
Cool article.
It's crazy how much slower the trap speed is on the VR4. 5-7 mph slower than the LS1's. I'm not real big on cars that require the launch to get the E.T. instead of HP. To me, they aren't as fun to drive on the street unless you're going to dump the clutch at every stop light. I like to punch it from a roll and actually feel some acceleration. Of coarse, they are nice for snow and rain. Dan |
