Wink My 99 Z28 vs a 02 (ish) Viper RT/10

I was on my way to the chiropractor and ended up behind this 2002 ish red RT/10. It looked to be a father and son in the car. The son was driving. As I drove behind him not expecting anything, he starting driving fairly fast. I ended up behind him at a stop light with nothing but road ahead of him. He floored it when the light turned green, so I did too. I had to get in the right lane to get around him as I was catching and passing him quickly. I put about 2 car lengths on him and then shutdown. At the next light, I roll down my window to tell him how nice his car is, and he said "I would have never thought your car could keep up with mine, let alone beat me like that!" I laughed, rolled up the window and headed to my appointment.

It was my first Viper race in my car since it's been modded. I had goosebumps and couldn't stop smiling. <---- I looked like that.

Ummmm.... Yeah. They must have had a block of wood under the gas pedal or something.

The 2002-2003 Viper is factory rated at 500 horsepower and 525 ft-lbs or torque. They *regularly* dyno higher than that. It weighs 3300 lbs, which makes it equal to or *lighter* than most F-bodies. The rear tires are over 13" wide, which is a *lot* of meat on the ground and you'd have to mini-tub an F-body to fit those under there.

And you walked on it with your earth shattering 374/381 powerhouse.

Man, pull the other leg. This one's getting sore.

They weren't racing you. Or it all happened at the corner of "Fantasy Land" and "Dreamer Way."

Get your facts right before you criticize. A 2002 Viper is rated at 450 hp, not 500. Take off roughly 10% for drivetrain loss. That puts him at, roughly mind you, 405ish hp. A stock 02 Viper runs a 12.2-12.4@118 at the track. Did you happen to check my sig? 12.61@114 with a 2.1 60ft. Make that a 1.6-1.7 60ft and what would I run? Low 12s high 11s. Since he was spinning his tires from a stop, I was able to not be much affected by my bad 60ft times.

So go ahead and pull on my third leg, your GF is getting tired...

Oh and notice the "ish" next to the year. Not 100% what the year was, but it was in that range, give a year or take a few.

I long for the day I get a chance at a viper. Good run! I am sure it was quite the rush.

Yeah, whatever. I was building and racing cars ten years before you, junior. Seen a lot of "fast cars." Built a few, myself.

Horsepower is not the be-all, end-all of racing. In drag racing, torque is king. No way you're going to out-torque a V-10 short of forced induction.

By your own post you run 114 and an '02 viper does 118. That is a *significant* power difference. Yet you claim you walked away from him... Maybe you should get *your* facts straight.

I'll leave the 'girlfriend' jokes to the kiddies, and you to your mental masturbation.

*yawn*

HAHAHA! Nice!

I would completely pick you over a 450 hp viper with two guys in it any day of the week

Of topic, red_94z what does your car run in the 1/4? My 00 formy in my sig. has almost the same mods except that mines a stock short block.

Last time I checked magazine specs do not win races nor dyno dyno numbers.

Anything can happen on the street....I have beaten cars that I should not have and the person was trying.

So before you put yourself on the high horse and call people's stories bull****, your comment of because it is a V-10 and torque tells me you do not know as much as you think....

That might hold true at the track but an asphalt/concrete street is much different.

Unfortunately i'v never had that chance I can tell you that it runs 7.30s in the 1/8th with 1.55 60fts and its a full blown street car... I have gotten a few new parts since then though so I'm not sure what it runs now.

"I was building and racing ten years before..." SHUT YOUR MOUTH! Look man, jumping on your tricycle and racing the boy next door's big wheel does not make you an expert. My car trapped 114 four years ago. A few things were done here and there, suspension stuff mostly, but I guess in your book that would not make a car run any better. "Blah blah...torque is the only thing that makes cars fast...blah blah."

Actaully you know what? You are 100% entitled to your opinion. But go ask the kid with the amazed look on his face as he got passed by a Z28 while racing me in his Viper. And I did not walk away from the guy, I beat him by a good 2 car lengths though. If I used the words "walked away" I apologize, I was about 30 feet ahead of the guy.

So as Will Ferrel said, "Suck one."
