LT1 vs. LS2 GTO

It wasn't a full on race, but I got the gist of it.

He was ahead of me at the light and he rolled into the throttle and so did I then I moved into the lane next to him where we both had to be at full throttle and I pulled almost to his door before I let off to change lanes (basically I pulled a half car from 30-50) to the other side of him. Then instead of turning into my neighborhood, I got up next to him at about 60 or so and we both nailed it, him first and I pulled a couple feet and then we stayed even until I let off again probably at the 85ish mark. He kept going and I turned around. I totally thought that second short roll race would have swung more in his favor.

Basically it seems like if we went from a dig I'd have gotten him pretty good, but I'm quite sure if the race got above 90 it would have gotten VERY ugly for me... too bad for him it never did.

Me: Stall, tune, 3.42s, my cutout was closed.
And I assume he was a stock 6 speed 6.0 GTO.

Bring on the nutswingers.

Why cause it was a 12.9 car? That's not much faster than me and I'm all low end. So what's so hard to believe?

I have raced 2 gtos on street, and I have all bolt ons full suspension and I drug them to the ground. They are heavy cars just because our cars are old doesnt mean they cant still run good, I can tell you MeanGreen here on the board went to Arizona picked up a 96 auto camaro I swear never seen this ever we put pacesetter longtubes and a ported intake from lloyd elliot and the car I kid you not ran consistant 8.4 8.5 in the eighth no stall or tuning with 2.1 60fts. Some lt1s just run great some dont for example 93 firebird formulas i couldnt beallive it only would dyno 215 to wheels stock and would run 13.9 14.2s wierd. Some cars I have seen run 13.2 just with a catback and a intake. But again we are in texas so you get good times out here. oh and the gtos had exhaust work done and tuning.

Heavy is one thing. It is true that the 4th gen F-Body has roughly a 400 pound advantage. However, the LS2 GTO shouldn't have trouble with a stock or near stock LT1 when driven correctly (Especially from a roll). Most LS2 GTOs dyno in the range of 340+ to the rear wheels. That is about 80 ~ 100 more RWHP than the average stock LT1. That is more than enough power to wheels to offset the weight disadvantage when compared to stock(ish) LT1 (Especially when racing from a roll).

Anyway, not saying the OP was being dishonest. I am just stating some facts about the whole GTO is heavier so the LT1 is faster argument that is bound to get going.

No because w/ a stall and a cutout(especially closed) your not keeping up w/ a 6spd LS2 let alone beat one...though anything can happen on the street.

And neither did I lol...Like posted above, most 6spd ls2 gto's put down 350ish...W/ the auto and your limited mods your probably somewhere in the area of 250 give or take....Even him being stock he has over 100 rwhp then, your converter and weight differance will hold him off for a bit but not long.

Ok, all these things I already said. Why do you feel the need to reiterate? I held him off, I would have been destroyed if it went any higher. I know this, I ALREADY said this. What's your point?

A low 13 second car all bottom end can't handle a low 13 high 12 second car that's all topend in a low speed race?

I feel ya!

A buddy and me drove a LS2 GTO and were not impressed, they are sluggish even with an extra 80-100hp! If they do have it...it sure doesn't feel like it.

I can KIND OF see where you are coming from. I drove MANY LS1s and not a single one ever felt as quick as an LT1. But I also wasn't getting too fast with them. I only got one up to 130 once. But down low they feel SLOOOOOW.

But I would think that the LS2 should feel pretty quick all around. Not as quick as a stalled LT1, but still quick.
