LT1 vs. LS1

What are your opinions on this one:

'94 LT1 with M6 & 3.42, CAI, Borla Catback, Random Tech Highflow cat, Airfoil, B&M Ripper, STB,panhard rod, LCAs w/ bolt-on adjustable LCA brackets, Eibach Pro-Kit springs, Bilstein shocks

'99 LS1 Convertible with M6 & 2.73 ....flowmaster cat back, SLP induction und a different MAF... he also has a few suspension mods like STB und lowing springs

Does my LT1 even have a chance ?

Re: LT1 vs. LS1

The LS1 is still stronger, if the launches are similar. With the mods listed, LT1 = 265-270 rwhp, LS1 = 300-310 rwhp is my guess.

How did the LS1 get a 2.73 rear if it's a M6. I didn't think they made any. Is it a A4 => M6 conversion?

Exactly, the LS1/m6 was converted, it was a V6/A4 Convertible before.
The Ls1 dynoed with 280 RWHP

Your lt1 has a chance but given both cars have equal drivers, your lt1 will probably lose. I think you'll give the ls1 a good run!

Thanks TenaciousZ... Anymore opinions ?
BTW: His best run was a 14,072 @ 104,42 MPH at a not very well prepared track with pretty high elevation.

Re: LT1 vs. LS1

If he's trapping 104 mph, then he will amost certainly beat you from a roll. You are probably trapping about 99-101 mph I would guess.

If you can get a better launch than him, I would expect you could hold him off until the end of the 1/4.

I'm surprised that he didn't dyno more HP. I thought LS1's dynoed close to 280-290 rwhp stock.

Some have seen less than that, although that number is a little low for an I/E LS1. Guess the flowmaster doesn't help very much. Some have made over 300 rwhp stock, so no surprise that one falls a little short.

IMO the LT1 should rip out of the hole, of course the LS1 will catch up and pass, but I have no idea when, since it's only at 280 rwhp and the LT1 may be above 260, plus the whole 2.73s on an M6 issue.

His next mod will be some 3.73s or 4.10s, right?

Re: LT1 vs. LS1

ok, well checked again, I was wrong about the 280 RWHP.... according to his dyno pull he has exactly 262 RWHP and 338 HP at the flywheel, I don't know why it is that low, but I would guess that improves my chances, doesn't it ?

More than that.I have seen them dyno between 300 to 310 hp at the rear meat. Were talking about an engine underated from the factory at pre-01 305 hp.They actually make pretty close to 340 hp at the flywheel

somethings terribly wrong with that ls1 or the dyno was a mustang dyno or dynoed on the moon. I'm thinking the moon.

Re: LT1 vs. LS1

I think the LT1 will rip him a new one. RWHP is nice but hp per pound is also a factor, convertibles are not light.

Re: LT1 vs. LS1

How would the situation change if I added a nice pair of AS&M headers (mids) before racing him ??
