Cool Killed a Bike Tonight

I'm on my way home from work and this bike turns from a side road to get behind me in the flow of traffic. I think nothing of it, but he's following close and I couldn't pass the other traffic. So as soon as we get to the area where this road goes from 1 to 2 lanes, I'm in the left lane, this other car is in the right, and this guy on the bike gets right in between us, so I'm like WTF is this guy doing? He gave me the impression he was going to cut in between us and take off, but I didn't want him to hit my car in the process (he was very close).

When the light turned green I took off a little quick, he passed the car on my right and then I knew it was on. I punched a little hard and took off and all I heard is zzzzzzzzzzzzooooooooom-zzzzzzzzzzzzzoooooooooooom-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzoooooom.... So i hit it harder and pull away from this guy when he was right at my tail. Next thing I knew I was going 90 so I killed it and he flew right by and took off into the night. I thought sport bikes were faster than that, and he was definitely going for it because he was revving the hell out of his bike, it was LOUD. Maybe this guy was learning how to ride his bike, but a kill is a kill.

Everytime I see one of those things, they always do massive wheelies along side of my car. Last time one tried and it looked like he was going to fall over backwards and become roadkill! Most sport bikes are VERY fast. Either way, nice kill!

I'm not sure what kind of bike it was, but it was a late model Japanese-looking bike with two round headlights.

Dunno where you grew up sweetheart, but back in the day i knew a fella that could bust the 'crotch rockets' light to light in his Nova..............back in the 80's anyway...............
I'm sure he could do the same today.

Motorcycles have come leaps and bounds since even the late 80's technology. They are hundreds of pounds light and making more power than ever. Hell, Yamaha is claiming their 04 R1 will make just over 180 bhp (roughly high 150's to low 160's at the wheel) and tip the scales at just under 370 lbs. Nothing in the 1980's came even close to that. Launching that much power and keeping it down is a chore but if you can...bye bye anything but a 9 second car on slicks.

For a car to beat a bike is cool but at the track I go to is rare but happens. My bros bike is a ZX600R Ninja and his first run for the night after we just put it back together was 11.9 at 116mph with out the carbs dialed in. We hope for low 10s with head work and extended swing-arm.

This isn't necessarily true. Some newer 600s are trapping 114-118. I have seen guys run high 12s @ 114 and mid 11s @ 118 on the same bike. Just like cars, it depends on the rider. Once you're on the highway, it's a different story. My buddy used to run right with, and pull on some, newer 600s on the highway - his car trapped 113. I haven't had the same luck with bikes...I always pick on the wrong ones hehe.

CCs don't mean sh*t. Its like cars. You have seen plenty of small blocks run away from big blocks right. It's what kind of bike and engine. A new suzuki katana 600 will run like 13.0s. A suzuki gsxr 600 will run 10s. People need to learn the diffrence between a supersport bike and a SPORT TOURER. The katana basically has a downgraded gsx-r engine(lower compression, mild cams, ect.) OF COURSE ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL A 1000cc will walk a 600. Of course I have seen 600s beat hayabusas. The rider is everything on a bike.

Well that must be that thin desert air because any of the new (03) 600cc supersport bikes are more than capable of trapping in the 120's at sea level with just a slightly above average riders. I think the Kawasaki 636 is the current stock HP king and it can be trapped right around the 128 mark with a very good rider in stock form. Throw a sprocket on it, lower it, and maybe an extra link or two in the chain to slide things back and bit and you are looking at 130 something, again with a very good rider.

This may be true. The air here does suck, but most people don't want to believe how bad it can be. I have seen countless R6s trap 115-118 mph out here. Whether that's what they run in better air, I can't attest to.
