Don't race cars with a parachute (Track day)
So I finally get my T/A to the track last Saturday.
First round, raced a late 60's Camaro on Nitrous. He didn't have 3rd gear and was just testing his new 200 shot off the launch. Again this was the first time my T/A had seen the track and I blew the tires at launch bad. All I could do was laugh after it was all over. He ran a 13.587 @ 67.85 (1.527 60', let off about 1/8mile mark) to my losing 14.468 @103.67 (2.629 lol 60').
Second round, not to be outdone by the first round, there was a fully race prepped car (parachute, tow vehicle and all). Went and told the guy in the Camaro that he wasn't enough challenge so I was going to pick on this other car
. So we get lined up.... I launch better, thinking, oh yeah, its all over for him. I hit a 2.245 60' and the 1/4 in 13.904 @ 104.16. Didn't quite edge him out in his 8.823 @ 156.12 run with his crappy 1.308 60'
. Hell he was done with his run before I hit the 1/8 mile (8.823 to my 9.120 1/8). On a bright note though, at least I could drive my car back up pit lane, he had to have his tow vehicle come get him hehe.
Anyway, figured I better pick on someone littler. Got lined up next to a 4 wheeler in the third round lol. Finally someone I could handle. I ran a 13.786 @ 104.53 to his losing 15.838 @ 80.26. Oh yeah, put the smack down on him rofl.
All in all, pretty happy with the first time at the Track. DA was 7400', so my car is in the ballpark with corrected times on that last run of 12.31 @ 115.7. About where it should be for a full weight H/C T/A.
Sad to say, I have video of the 8sec guy against me, very embarrasing to watch (my Wife actually panned with the 8sec guy and had to come back to find me lol). Reminds me of an 8 or 9 sec car against a Honda that I saw a few months back. I might get around to posting it for everyone's amusement, pretty low qual though, just taken off our dig camera's video option.

Re: Don't race cars with a parachute (Track day)
Good stories.
Reminds me of when I lined up against a dragster. Yes, that's right, a full blown dragster. He only raced 1/8 mile, but ran 5.7@130 in the 1/8th, with a 1.19 60' time!
Yeah, he smoked me. I have it on video. I laugh every time I see it. I only had a CAI at the time. (not that the outcome would be any different with my current mods.)

Whoa... good thing I wasn't drinking a Coke
I read the title and thought, "Well, no ****, Sherlock"
Your story was hilarious
7400' DA
Another thing, here at Carlsbad they don't let heavily mismatched cars run against each other. If a car has a chute, it only runs another car of the same speed (more or less) or it just runs alone if there isn't another one. Wierd... I just assumed that it was some sort of NHRA/IHRA rule, but I guess not.

just thought about corrected times. all cars have corrected times for sea leve? if so, that one car would be running 7's??? just a thought as i read your post.
pretty funny.

pretty funny. The correction that I'm using is for stock / superstock (good for most streetable type cars). Guess he'd be in the Comp class which is less correction by about 1.5%. I didn't see if he was Forced Induction or Nitrous, but that would again cut his correction further by 1/2. None the less, he is a solid low 8s car and it was quite embarrasing to run against lol.

Yep, 7400' DA, it was an aweful day. 100° at 11am, 15% humidity, 29.76 on the baro, all that on top of the track already sitting at 3720'. Guy at the track had a weather station and he told me the 7400'. When I calculate off the straight conditions it is 7444'. Was pretty miserable, wish it was nicer, the raw numbers just look terrible for all the work done to the T/A.

Hehe, your story is very similar to mine. The guy ran a 5.676 @ 124.44 in the 1/8th. I honestly don't remember seeing him during the run, guess I was concentrating. One of my bracket racing friends that was watching told me that the guy was back in the pits having a coffee by the time I crossed the lights lol.
Re: Don't race cars with a parachute (Track day)
Reminds me of the time I ran my friend Mike's Vette with my 406 S10. My 11.80 @ 118 was no match for his 10.003 @ 78. He broke loose at the 300 ft mark and coasted across the finish line.
