LT1 track times back in 2005.
The last time I went to the dragstrip was in 2005, in my 1996 Z28 auto. It wasn't too hot of a car, just some minor mods. First it had the stock 3.23 rear, CAI, random tech hi flow cats, y-pipe, and flowmaster 3" catback. I had some other little things like a 160 T-stat, granatelli MAF, smooth elbow, TB splitter, and underdrive pulley. At this point I had no tuning done to it. It was mid August at around 5-6PM, and track temps were at 105 degrees; elevation about 740'. I was running 275/40/17 Khumo Ecsta street tires, and I had no manual fan switch to combat the high temps. I ran about 8 passes, at first no burnouts; but as I got more comfortable I did heat up the tires before launching. I can't remember my 60' times but I do remember my best 1/4 time of 14.24 at 98mph.
The heat was robbing a lot of horsepower that evening. I remember racing another LT1 Formula that was just running a catback, and it was running 14.5's. There was a stock Buick Grand Nat'l that was having trouble breaking 14.3. There was a new 05 Mustang Mach I, with full length headers, x-pipe, and bullet mufflers, and the 5 speed that ran a best 13.8 at 105. I had an Ed Wright tune done a month later, but I never ran the car at the track again before I sold it. I often wondered what my car could have ran with the tune and cooler temps.

Sounds right on for a basically stock LT1. You probably would have hit 13.9 to 14 flat @ 100 mph with cooler temps.
I ran similar times in my 95 formula with a WS6 hood and air box, 160 stat and Borla 2 3/4" Y pipe ORP. It went a best of 13.9 @ 100 mph in cool weather . Typically went 14.10- 14.20s in 90 degree weather. Before the Y pipe it went 14.3's @ 97 mph in 90 degree weather. 60 ft varied from 2.0-2.2

Yeah, that's cool to hear similar times with similar mods. It's funny on the track how much 2-3 tenths makes when you are side by side racing. My very first drag race at a track was that night and my first race was against a 78 Vette with lots of work done to it. It ran a 12.8, against my mid 14, and I felt like the slowest thing ever after that! I felt better after beating a couple stock f-bodies and a new auto Mustang GT.

Yeah I thought about that after the post and it didn't sound right. 05 was the year of the body style change, so 04 would have been right for the Mach I.
