96' Formula vs. 01' SS

Well I'm just cruising down the pike earlier looking for a good race. I come upon a silver SS in the right hand lane, so I get on it a little as I pass him. He got stuck behind some slow cars, then I could see him catching up to me as the light ahead is turning red. I get into right hand lane & he pulls up next to me, so I give it a small rev before the light changes. Light goes green & neither one of us nailed it right away. I was waiting for him to go & I guess he was waiting for me to go. So we both finally take off (maybe at a 5mph roll). He had me by about a car length when we let off around 65. (My front end was even with his rear.) I figure not too bad since my car is stock except for my Flowmasters. By the way he was all stock too, both automatics.

Good race, LS1's wont usually start to pull on you till after 60 though.

Good race, but the LS1's will pull our cars hard up-top.

At the track with the mods in my sig I would walk all over mildy modded or stock LS1 until about the 1/8th mile... Seriously have somewhere like 4-5+ car lenghts on them... then they would blow the doors off my car like I was standing still. Always fun races though. I think the LT1 will always have the upper hand in stop light races due to it's much lower torque peak.

Are all LT1's 275 hp stock? After I get a cold air intake & pulley kit do u think I'll have close to 300? So far all I have is exhaust.

Your 96 actually was rated at 285 Stock. It's probably a bit closer to 300 at the flywheel as they were slightly underrated. With a CAI and pullies you could easily be at 320-325 at the flywheel. Add your exhaust and you could see 340 flywheel. Flowmasters aren't the best flowing but they still add around 10RWHP, or around 15 at the engine.

I don't think with those mods he would even come close to 340 at the engine. You pretty much need all the bolt ons to get to 300whp in a LT1.

Your crazy, w/ catback and intake LT1 will probably be somewhere around 300-305 flywheel...Most full Long Tube bolt on 6spd LT1's run somewhere in the 290's rwhp range

Yeah, my bad. I was thinking of all the wrong mods. I think he could at least see 320 flywheel though, these cars were slightly underrated.
