96-97 Camaro SS M6 versus 98-00 Camaro z28 AUTO

Which one of these cars do you think would win in a 1/4 mile race.I have had people argue with me that the LS1 would destroy it,but I think the 305HP LT1 would run right with the LS1.

Well if both are 100% stock and your one hell of a driver and the other guy is so so it might be a tie, but most likely a lose for you.. I've seen 273 autoed ls1's go mid 13's with the driver just dropping the hammer on the last yellow b4 green and pull that time at 103-104mph

Sorry bro. LS1 all day. My friend had a 2002 leather, auto (2.73), power everything and it would go 13.5 @104 no sweat, bone stock. Best was a 13.3with free mods, he then added a lid ,13.1 @105-106.

I think a lot of people seriously don't realize how strong the LS1 is. Yes, an LT1 is still a great motor, but it is not on the same level. Sure an LT1 SS is rated at 305, but a stock LS1 puts that to the ground. Nuff said.

Remember that 305 LT1 power is more like 260-maybe 270 rwhp, as where the LS1 is highly underated you'd probably be putting that (or around) 305 to the wheels.

I would put my money on the LS1. Even if it was a stronger dynoing LT1 vs a weaker auto LS1 you still have to factor in how much easier it is to drag race an automatic.

My first ever quarter mile pass was 13.5 @ 103 on a 2.0 60' (stock car btw). I can't tell you how many times I have seen or heard of stock M6 LS1's running 13.8-14.4 with inexperienced drivers. Not only is it easier to mess up the launch with a M6 but you can shift slow, early, late, ect.

A properly working, properly driven LS1 will beat an LT1 every time. I'm not talking "Evan Smith" at the wheel, just no screwing up off the line, and/or missing shifts, etc.

LT1's are quick off the line, and may even have the LS1 through the 60' mark ... that's where the "close" ends, and the LS1 starts to walk away. I have raced a few of my buddies' LT1's, the quickest being a 13.7 @ 100 in the 1/4 mile (stock '97 Z28 M6), and I beat them all, while my car was A4 (with both 2.73's and 4.10's).

On the highway, the gap is even bigger ... LS1's pull like crazy up top ... the difference is night & day .

The 98-00's are not as strong as the 01-02's from what I have seen. I have seen a few of those years with an auto and 2.73's only trapping 101-102 stock at Stanton and 131 while I was in Michigan. A 6spd LT1 should be close to that. An 01-02 would kill it though stock versus stock.

owning both i would agree the ls1 would win. but 4 some reason when my 95z28 was running top notch i would spank ls1's off the line and more amazingly would pull on them on the freeway on many occasions, i couldnt believe it!
By the way my 95 was stock for alot of the ls1 killings witch made it astonoshing to me, its now moded but my tranny took a dump so once its fixed ill run them againts eachother.

Yes people it's true. The LT1 is quicker, faster, makes more HP, makes more torque and has much better top end then the LS1's. In fact, GM knowingly replaced the LT1 with an inferior motor just to mess with our heads and increase thier profits.

Don't listen to any of those fools that claim they ran low 13's in a stock LS1 or low 14's in a stock LT1. They are all liars spewing propaganda meant to do nothing more then continue this web of lies.

And if you go out and race a stock LS1 with your stock LT1 then be sure to put as much money on the race as you can. It'll be money in the bank

What are you talking about????

I think what that guy was sayin is the fact that there are some factory freak LT1s, just like LS1s. Not every STOCK LS1 hits the low 13s, most are mid to high and i mean 13.5-13.8 range. Weve all heard of stock LT1s, especially in the form of an SS dip into that range before. So dont patronize someone for making an observation.

I'd say, based on your mod list and times, that mod for mod you and I are right there and i'm driving one of those lowly LT1's. In a street race i'd put money up.

Get your head out of the LS1 tailpipe and realize that things can and do happen outside of the norm.

I all ready said that LS1's don't hit low 13's and anyone who tells you different is lying. Stock for stock and mod for mod the LT1 is always faster

OMG! Dude get your car on a dyno because you have some major tuning issues. Or maybe you have a bad plug or bad wire. Because with your mods you should be way faster then me. Remember mod for mod the LT1 is always faster
