'94 Z vs. '94 GT **theoretical**

I recently bought a '94 Z, and one of my buddies drives a '94 GT. We work together, and spend a good majority of our days talking cars. He's done a few mods to his car, and is pretty confident in its power. Currently, he has a MAC CAI, Ford Motorsport mid-lengths, underdrive pulleys, and a Flowmaster catback. Within the next week he is having 3.73s and a MAC x-pipe installed. He is sure that these mods will allow him to run even with LS1s. Now, as his car started with I believe 215 HP (correct me if I'm wrong), I think he's probably got enough to run even with my bone stock LT1, but LS1s are still a little out of his league. Who's right?

I think if we raced (we're hoping to soon) I'd pull a narrow victory, what do you guys think?

depending on the shape of your car a good running close to stock lt1 will still beat a mustang with those mods aslong as you can drive and get a good launch

Haha...he won't touch an ls1, not even close. I'd say you'd put at least 1-2 cars on him.

You'll probably get him, I raced one from a dig and he had Nitto's, shifter, gears, headers, and a few other things. He got me out of the hole (my first race) but after hitting 2nd gear I flew right past him. My car was stock to the rubber.

He will only be able to hang with some stockish auto LT-1's with those mods. The cars are pigs and underpowered from the factory.

Theoretically you would hand him his a**. Those 94 GT's are gutless pigs in the HP department. Let me know how the race goes. The only thing that would put things in his favor would be your LT-1 missing several spark plug wires or you not launching right.

He might hang with you if you start out in 3rd gear.

I got a friend with a 95 with pretty mucht he same crap minus the headers...went 13.7 on some good tires...but he is a drivin SOB...the gear in a mustang is huge...IMO...

EDIT: maybe it was 13.8...high 13's regardless...

Then again you could just race him and what is going to happen, will happen.

I've heard on the older fox bodys the stock air box flows better then an aftermarket...he may want to look to see if its the same for his 94 so he isn't losing anything.

Umm, I think you heard wrong. The first thing anyone would do with those cars is remove the air silencer and get a few more horse. It also stands to reason, if it is better than what they could produce, the aftermarket wouldn't step in an try to improve it.

The aftermarket makes products to make money, regardless of whether or not it works...look at how many of those stupid tornado devices sell, or electronic "superchargers." You have too much faith in the aftermarket, my friend.
