A friend of mine from work has been talking up his new Cobalt. We are gonna meet up at the track sometime for friendly races anyways im just wondering what do you guys think the outcome will be? We are both stock and from the title you can see he has a manual and im auto. Thanks-
Never been to the track so I have no 1/4 time to share yet.

Do you know whether you've got 2.73's or 3.23's? Not that it really matters much, just curious
.
Anyway, put it in D(rive) and leave it there (3rd). As long as you hook (which you should have no problem hooking easier than a FWD car) then I think you'll be ok against the Cobalt.
I really haven't heard a lot of feedback on them yet, but I've heard they're actually not that bad for a little 4-banger (a GM 4 cylinder at that!
). Someone told me they heard of one dynoing ~205 or 210 HP at the wheels, pretty much stock?
I dunno ... thought they were rated at ~205 HP by GM??
(although, LS1's were rated at 305 - 310, and that's what they make at the wheels, right?
).
I think you should take it, but if the guy has put a smaller pulley on the blower, things could change I suppose?
Have fun running at the track too!
Watch a few cars run off the line to figure out where the beams are first ... you don't want to look like a complete nOOb out there! Keep in mind, you've gotta watch the lights to know when you've broken the pre-staged beam and the staged beam ... the track officials shouldn't have to guide you.
Good luck!

From what ive heard they are a 14.0-14.4ish sec car at sea level. Theyre slower than srt-4's and usually nipping at the heels of a STOCK lt1. you should have no problem unless your ls1 is running bad and you cant hook up off the line.

a GM 4 banger? NOoOOOoOooOOOoOOO!!!!!!!!! i wouldnt buy that thing even if it had 450 hp.

They are also underrated. 215-220 to the wheels stock. My IROC runs a low 14, and my buddys stock Cobalt SS stuck right with me.

my dad raced one at the track, it ran a 14.5(unknown mods, if any) to his 14.8(secondaries not opening). it was mid-high 80's and very humid.

^ ^ What kind of car is your Dad racing??
"Dad's" seem to be the worst at drag racing from my experience!
My Dad ran a 15.9 ..... yes, that's a 15.9 (I don't even remember the speed) in my '02 on the SAME DAY as I ran a 13.06!!!!!

That was ALSO the same day that HE ran a couple 13.2's in his '73 (4-speed at the time) then I went out and ran a 12.7!!!

Cobalts are at about stock LT1 levels. My friend has one with gm stage II kit (smaller pulley, cai, exhaust, pcm reflash) and its running 13.5 @ 106 mph. Stock times were around 14.5ish @ 97-99?

yea the cobalt looks pretty sweet for a 4 banger...i saw one at the super chevy show this past weekend on show for GM it looked sweet

You should'nt have any problems spanking the cobalt. The cobalt is slower than the SRT4 and SRT4's are no match for LS1's. You should win by a half second or 5-7 lenths
Update- track was rained out hopefully this friday we can get a few runs in.
Raced him tonight real quick after work. LS1 FTW! From a 40 mph roll I gave him about a half a car + the move somewhat and by 90 I had about 3 cars on him. From a dig I tore him up pretty bad but he did get a bad launch. Those cars are pretty quick from a roll. But downshifting>Waiting on my auto tranny
Alot faster then a friends Integra Gs-R I raced a few days ago. Hmm now that was to easy
