04 gt vs 85 iroc

went to the NE dragway last friday
only got in three runs due to they had king of the hill running at the same time

found how bad my new tranny is after second gear

took him off the line
had him at 60'
had him at 100'
got to 330' and he had .4 on me
and by the time we hit 1/4 mi he took me by a full second
he was at 96mph and i was at 88mph

between my tranny not shifting until 4800rpm and it kicking down to second while trying to go faster(any more than 3/4 throttle)----------------------
I THINK I NEED A BETTER TRANNY

im sorry i dont fully understand, but not shifting UNTIL 4800rpm? i know the TPI's long runners kill RPMs but is 4800rpm still to fast for it? and also, i DOWNSHIFTS as youre going down the track? wouldnt that cause the RPM's to be really high and cause valve float?

What mods do you have? What were you expecting to run? Was the GT stock? A little more info would be nice, the original post was vauge.

That GT had to be stock and run by a bad driver. Most stock cars trap 98-100mph.

And yes a little more info on your setup.

96mph is a lil on the lower end of the scale for those mustangs but well within its range just like 100mph is on the high side. but it seems about right for both cars

The Stang Only Had Exhaust Upgrade

Mine Has Forth Gen Locker W/3.42's
350 Injectors
Cold Air Intake Tube W Relocated Maf And Air Intake Sensor
2 3/4" High Flow Cat W/2 3/4" Intermediate Pipe To Flowmaster And Out Duel 5" Chrome Tips
Other Suspension Mods But Nothing To Help With Shifting Issue

Did More Inspection In My Tranny Found Springs On Govoner Are Wrong And Detent Cable Is Stretched Out

The Springs Are Not Letting It Shift Until Later
First To Second And Second To Third Rpm's Were Hitting 4800

And The Cable Is Not Adjusting Right If I Gave More Then 3/4 Throttle It Would While In Third It Kicked Down To Second The Rpm's Shot To 5500

Both Cases Were Keeping Me From Enjoying The Race

This Tranny Was A Stock Rebuild From A Friend For 100 Bucks I Got What I Payed For

Hit up car-part.com and you can find some pretty good deals there occasionally.

Why do you have "350 injectors" on your stock 305? The 85 TPI 305s ran well, and with 3.42 gears and some mild bolt-ons high 14s - 15 flat is easily possible - what did you run?

You are aware that the new injectors have hurt your performance right?

That car should be running closer to 15 flat in the low 90s
