Who in here has the best brake system?
Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
I think "movit" or something like that was the company that sold Porsche brakes... but I wouldn't get too enamored of a brand name like Porsche. No doubt their brakes are good but there are certainly better. I think one of the best configurations for our cars would be the Alcon 6 piston/floating hat setup. I think they go for around $5k... which is probably more than my 96 books for.
As for me... I've got the lowly C5 upgrade... which works just fine for street driving (and light track driving I'm told)

Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
I went autocrossing on Sunday, and the stock brakes on my '02 held up fine. They're much stronger than I would have guessed, and I didn't notice any fade. This was on a 1.2-mile course that included tons of turns, so there was plenty of braking.
Given that, I think that saying C5 brakes can handle "light track driving" is a bit of an understatement.

Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
I have seen some pics of some 6 piston Movit's on a black WS6, and some 6 piston Wilwoods on a silver LS1 Camaro, but thats about it.
I myself sometime would like to upgrade my Bear brakes for a good 6 piston caliper system.
Still looking for someone with some killer brakes to reply and post some pics!

Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
CALL911, do you have a particular problem with your Baer setup, or are you just looking to upgrade?
More pistons will increase maximum potential clamping force. In and of itself, that doesn't seem that useful. The stock LS1 two-piston setup can lock up the brakes without much trouble -- I'm sure your Baer setup is even stronger.
Generally, brake upgrades are done to decrease brake fade over time. More pistons will have zero effect on your fade.
Just wondering what you're trying to accomplish.

Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
Whoever has the best brakes is the person who has put in brake ducting for cooling. I'd take a C5 setup with a good duct system over a Baer 6 piston setup with no ducting. It's all about the airflow... the best brakes will suck with no cooling air.
Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
i'm with 5.0this. ls1's are adequate although i went one step further and did the c-5 upgrade. i'mlooking into a front breather kit and a duct system to the fronts when i change out the front bumper.

I wouldnt even run ceramic rotors if I was out SCCA racing my car. I cant even imagine the cost of doing that.
Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
CALL911 unless your coming overseas for you next assignment your Baer's will be just fine w/ some ducting. I run the Baer track kit "aka" ZR1 brake setup over here w/ no problems. 4 piston setups are overkill for stateside use IMO unless you are really tracking the car A LOT. I almost bought Movit's but for the price for front and rears is 6-7K w/ the todays euro converison rate. The Nurnburgring puts some work on my brakes but not as bad as Hockenheim where I have to change the pads a lot more often and that's w/ ducting. Granted Movits are NO JOKE and will pull your eyes off.
The cheaper alternative but still the same effect as the Movit's aka "Brembo's is the Stoptech kit. 1/2 the price same results.

Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
Fading is not an issue with my current brakes. I can get on them hard at 140+ MPH and they stop hard with no fade. I simply will eventually want more stopping power. I have a buddy with a Supra TT whose stock brakes will out stop my car no problem. This is the kind of braking I wish to achieve eventially. Mostly I want more stopping power from higher speeds, which would equate to a higher piston caliper setup, such as the Movit's or the Baer 6 piston. Even though I drive the car stateside, I still drive it fast, and when I have the thing buried past 150 on the gage, I want to be confident I can stop quickly and safely.
Ultimately, this isn't why I posted this post. I am mearly trying to find who has the best braking system on their F-body in here. I am not trying to find info on how to make mine better (as I already have my mind set on my new brake system, I just don't have the money for it yet).
So, still looking for pics of a good 6 piston+ set up, or someone who thinks they have the ultimate brake setup for thier F-body.

Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
CALL911 go StopTech then as their the best for the money and are identical to Movit's. Check them out. Where are you running a 150mph at anyways?
6 piston setups are nice but not necessary and then of course you have to go 18's. Don't get me wrong they are kick azz but a 4 will do just the same in terms of stopping pwr.

Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
18's are already planned for next year, and most of the four pistons I have seen seem to be about the same stopping wise as my two piston setup from Baer. Actually some people claim their 6 piston from Wilwood aren't that much more over some good two piston setups. I have talked to the people at StopTech, they were helpfull. I am not sure when my actual purchase of my brake upgrade will be, seeing as how I just spent a good $10k in the car this year with the blower and the motor, but wheels will be the first step.
ANYWAYS, still looking for pics of 6 piston setups or anyone else who has a good brake setup on their F-body.

Re: Who in here has the best brake system?
Only ones I could find. My partner's car is the silver SS but it won't come up.
The black ones a friend as well but he's deployed.
