Stock stamped LCA questions

OK, I will start off by saying I am on a budget, and trying to save for more mods...

I know the stock LCA's flex and some guys box them to help for a while. But, I was under the car this weekend and got a little (cheep) idea to help my stiffen my stock LCA's and get me by for a little longer with them. But I have to know how they flex. I know they are like an upside down U, and those legs of the U flex, but do they flex in, out, or sometimes both?

boxing them in is cheap and has worked for years. they are not as strong boxed in but, they help on a budget.
