redo welding on SFC's

redo welding on SFC's

So the orignal shop that welded my SFC's did a crappy job.. what kinda options do i have to redoing them? Can I cut them off and reweld them? Or i the process of cutting them off, will I destory the SFC's and the car?

You would need to grind the welds off - not cut them. After that, grind any remaining slag off of the SFC's as well as the frame rails.

Time consuming job that's for sure. Good luck!

How long have they been on there? If they are holding up fine and not falling off you might just want to try to weld in some area's that might have not been welded on.

yea hopefully I can just do that..


The original shop years ago did a really ugly job.. ugly enough for me, that doesnt know squat about welding, that its an ugly job.. and my friend does know welding took a look at it and just laughed.


I found this local shop that did work on a bunch of Camaro's, including a beautiful 1st gen at a rod and custom show.. I'm going to swing by there and talk to them and see what they would recommend and go from there..

It sounds like in your case, ugly is still strong enough to do the job. Consider hiding the welds with a one inch wide strip of seam sealer. It's what you should really do anyway for corrosion protection. Awful risky to the car to remove ugly welds that nobody really sees. Good luck.
