F41 Steering Rack Answer

NAPA and maybe some other sites list 2 seperate steering racks for LS1 cars. One with and one without firm ride and handling. I had to replace mine so I got the one with Firm Ride. It was also $100 cheaper.

Turns out I was wrong. After some research I found out that the one WITH Firm Ride is attached to the F41 RPO Code. This is the code for upgraded suspension for the V6 car. It included a faster steering ratio that was on par with the Z28.

There is only one correct steering rack. It is attached to the FE2 RPO code and has the part number 26062311 for 98-02 cars & 26044844 for 93-97 cars.

I made this post after searching the board. I didn't find a clear answer, so here it is as best as I can figure out.

Re: F41 Steering Rack Answer

1LE is another RPO code that does not work with any other steering rack. You need the steering rack that was made for your car's RPO code.

FE2
F41
1LE

Those are the ones (all I believe) they have. FE2 & 1LE are for Z28/SS/WS6/Trans Ams, F41 & FE2 are for V6 f-bodies.

Hey guys ..... realize I'm pulling up a pretty old thread from the graveyard ;), but I'm looking for a new rack for my '02, and I was curious if anyone knows what the difference is between the FE2 rack (for Z28's, etc.) and the 1LE rack?? (I realize that 1LE was the "handling" package, but curious if that rack has a quicker ratio, and/or would it work for an '02 Z28?? ).

Otherwise, guess I'll just get the stock replacement (FE2?) piece .

Thanks for any/all input!! :)

There is no mention in the parts book of a separate rack for a 1LE. AFAIK, it does not exist.

Oh, ok! ;)

Any idea what the FE3, 4, 5, 6, 7 are from?!?! (maybe not all of those #'s, but at least some of them  ) ..... I called a used parts supplier to see what their cost would be, and the guy rhymed off a whole bunch of different FE# options? (as well as the F41). I just said I'd need the FE2 .

...as listed in the parts book...

FE2 Suspension system, ride and handling

FE4 Suspension system, special ride and handling

FE7 Suspension system, front and rear heavy duty

F41 Suspension, firm ride and handling, front and rear

FE4 and FE7 are 1998 + options.

Maybe they're related to the "B4C" cars?? (in particular, FE7 - "heavy duty")
