Brake upgrade?

I am thinking about upgrading my brakes on my 1996 z28. I have stock brakes now and it will not stop good. I am thinking of doing some c5 or ls1 z28 brakes up front. Will there be a huge difference between the two? And what kind of difference will I get over my stock system? Is it really worth the cash to only upgrade the front brakes or do I need to change the rear brakes also?
Thanks

I think I am just going to go with the ls1 brake upgrade for the front. I am going to go junkyard hunting; hope I can find a 1998 or newer f-body with front brakes intact. What should I expect to pay for the spindles, calipers, mounting hardware, and brake lines at the junkyard?

im not sure what you would pay but i would get front and rear brakes. you might as well if your gonna take the fronts. your front brakes definitely do most of the stopping, but you might as well do it right if your gonna do it.

The problem with taking the rears is it is not a direct swap. Do a search and you will find info on what is entailed to do the rear swap.

Ya to do the rears I will need to swap the axels. Also, I hear that the ls1 rears will lockup and induce wheel hop. I am going to just do the fronts because it will be less of a pain. I can get the swap on ebay for 250 shipped, but I think the junkyard will be less.

Do I need the ls1 spindles or can I just cut the ears off of my lt1 spindles to fit the ls1 brakes up front?

You need the LS1 spindles. You would run a major risk of never being able to get it aligned properly by cutting and welding parts from one spindle to another.

Powerslot rotors with Hawk pads and S/S lines is a much easier and cheaper way to do it.
