Which is the best brake pad; PBR or Hawk?
Which is the better brake pad for a HIGHLY modded street car with lots of high speed braking; PBR? Hawk HP? Hawk HPS?
|
If you're talking street car I wouldn't consider the Hawk HP. I should be getting money from Hawk, I've endorsed their HPS pads here every day for like a month now. :D
|
First off, there is no such thing as a Hawk "HP". It's HPS, or HP Plus. :) HP Pluses are much more powerful than HPS's or PBR's are, and they cost more and are a dirtier too. But they are completely ok for a street car. They work cold and have a lot of torque.
I use both the PBR's and the HPS's on my car. They are pretty much similar, the PBR's are just a little less $$$ *$67.50 vs. $81 for HPS) and have a little different pedal feel. I pretty much use whatever I have on the shelf at the time, that's how similar they are. And I can't get PBR rears for some reason, so I use HPS rears. Some folks prefer the same pad, which makes it a no-brainer. But having used both a lot, I would be hard-pressed to tell you the difference, so it doesn't concern me a lick having PBR fronts and HPS rears. I actually have both here in stock right now, FWIW. |
Which PBR were you thinking of though??? They have different pads.
I'll vote for PBR/Axxis Metal Masters for a street car. I've got several high speed emergency stops on mine. They're great pads. Don't dust a lot either. Between them and the HPS, I'd get whichever I got the best deal on. Just make sure your rotors and fluid are up to the heat also. |
I carry the MetalMasters....
|
Just out of curiousity, have you tried the Ultras?
|
You should probably look into upgrading the front brakes to at least a LS1 setup. I had so much dust with the Hawk pads it was insane. I use ceramics now.

What brand/type of ceramics are you running, and how do they work (actual braking performance wise) in comparison to a set of Hawk's? |

I prefer the superior brake pad here. Like I said, the car is a HIGHLY modded street car, and does a lot of high speed braking. It does make it to the track occasionly as well. So are you saying the HP plus pads are better than any PBR pads? Or are the PBR Metal Masters the best? |
I really dont think there is too much of a difference between the pads, except preference and maybe some $$..I personally go with any ceramic pad and they have always done good on my Z. Right now I think I have friction masters. Work great for me and only $40 a set. Just my .02

Ceramics are harder on rotors.
PBR also has the Ultra pad. Its a step up from the Metal Master. |
