ABS and TCS Intermittently Inoperative
ABS and TCS Intermittently Inoperative
New to the forum, so I thought I'd make this second post:
2 or 3 times a week, all my ABS and traction control lights come on. The dealer says the control module must be replaced at a cost of about $900 including labor.
One independent mechanic says he can do it for about $600 and the reason it's so expensive is the labor involved in reattaching and bleeding all the brake lines.
One mechanic told me to clean all the ground wires leading to the control module (which I did) and leave the battery disconnected overnight (which I also did). For about a week I didn't see the lights come back on and I thought the problem was solved. Then it started doing it all over again.
Any suggestions?

Z-Rated94: Not sure what you mean by "ABS delete." Do you mean turn off the traction control circuit? If you do, yes I've tried that. Didn't seem to help.
2000GTP: Thanks for your suggestion. No, I didn't clean any of the terminals on the PASSENGER side shock tower area. I'll do that and see what happens. I only cleaned the ground terminals on the DRIVER side (including especially the one that seems to go directly to the module itself.

I don't know if this is still a problem (mine didn't work for years until I finally decided to fix it).
I had a problem where sometimes the ASR and TCS (traction control) lights would stay off and other times the lights were on but either way the abs/tcs would not work. I found it was because I had wired an external fuel pump up using the same ground connector as where the brake pcm was connected (I forget what they call that unit), the passenger side shock pillar ground connection. Well, the stupid fuel pump was keeping it from going to completely grounded. I only figured this out after taking the car to a shop and getting the ABS code scanned. The scanner could not communicate with the brake pcm and either not getting power or a bad ground would cause that. Once I disconnected the ground to the external fuel pump everything work! After 7 years of the abs not working I am glad I can finally rest at ease with my brakes working 100%. Of course the original camaros never had abs anyway but still, it's a nice thing to have working.
