Question '00 Z28 Front and rear rotor thickness!

Hey guys,

I'm going to head to the brake shop this week and don't want to get new rotors if I don't need them; mainly because I can't afford it. I think the thickness specs for the stock Z28 rotors for front/rear are 1.27 in/1.02 in respectively. How thin can my rotors be for me to get away with not getting new ones for at least 6mo to a year? I do light, city driving and don't expect to be straining my brakes unnecessarily if I can help it.

Thanks
- Joe

Unless you have groves greater than .030 GM says not to turn the rotors.

So if you are not below the min thickness and you are only changing pads, no need to change or turn the rotor.

You can buy decent rotors at autozone for about $20.00 each so if you spend money for pads you would be better of buying new rotors than paying 10-15 to get a lousy turning job.

Brakes are really easy on an F-Body. You need a c-clamp and 3/8" hex key and the wheel off on LT1.

You might want to put the year of your car on the post.

I would not pay somebody to do this job. Get rotors and pads and do the swap yourself.

Thanks for the reply.. It's a 2000 Z28. I guess my question is what is the min thickness?
