The Baer kit (depending on which one) is very similar in rotor size and braking capability. The difference is that you can buy replacement C5 rotors for about $19.00 each and the Baer kits use rotors that are considerably more expensive (as is the kit in most cases). You can typically assemble this kit for less money (probably far less) than it will cost you to purchase the Baer kit. Also, I know of at least one Baer kit owner who is paying $220 each for replacement rotors for his 2 piece rotors. And, he is having pad taper problems because the bracket is flexing and allowing the caliper to "twist" under load. This is causing reduced pad life in his case (you wear out one end of the pad, but there is still material left on the pads, but the twisting allows the pad to hit the backing plate on one end first). In this case we are discussing a dedicated track car, not a street car, so the use is extreme. This kit has been developed for track use and is designed to account for this potential twisting problem and prevent it.

Re: * The Return of C5 to Fbody front brake conversion brackets (Bishop)! LIMITED SALE! *

When I got my brackets from Bob, I priced out all the components needed, including brakes, and it was like $800 or so, not including upgrading the rear pads, but that is like what? $50 or so? So for less then a grand you get some DAMN good brake upgrades that can be replaced/repaired with inexpensive (but good quality) parts when the time comes.

Thanks to everyone who has ordered so far!!! If you are considering the C5 upgrade, there is still time to get in on this.

Would the C5 brake upgrade fit behind the stock ZR-1 style 17"s, also can I still use my 15x3.5 weld drag stars (i already use a fairly thick spacer)? Also, are the C5 calipers 4 piston?

1. Yes, they will fit under the ZR-1's. They work great with those wheels.

2. I doubt very much that you could get them under a 15" anything, and a 15x3.5 would probably have to be spaced clear out past the caliper on a "huge" spacer and even then I have doubts (and don't consider it safe to use a spacer that large).

3. The C5 calipers are 2 piston calipers, but are "pressure cast" (not forged, but formed under pressure) and are considerably stronger than the F-body callpers.

whats the difference with these?
thanks!
I have no dog in this race since my class only lets me run LS1 brakes, however as an engineering student I'll give it to you in short. The UMI brackets are a cheap copy of Bob's without nearly as much engineering, thought, and testing put into them. Your brakes are a bad place to save $40-50. Bob's bracket is race proven and has a much better design. The material is also better suited to the application.

Do you want an engineered, tested, and race proven bracket or a cheaper one that someone just threw together?

Damn skippy!

Let me second that. I own a set of Bob's brackets, the original steel design. In fact I sold them for a while myself under the Nashville Speed name, I was even a sponsor here.

Let me just say there is NO comparison between Bob's design and the knock offs out there. What's more is I can promise you nobody has done the testing and validation Bob has done and I can promise you there's no way any immitation is as strong or reliable or SAFE.

Stainless steel brake brackets? Anybody know how brittle Stainless is? It gets worse when it is heat cycled. If your life is worth a few bucks then I guess the "other" brand is for you. Personally I don't screw around with stuff like brakes and the Speed Specialty/Bob bracket is THE best setup on the market.

And FWIW, its stronger than the Baer bracket too, which is honestly pretty darn flimsy, and though I don't think the Baer bracket would break, you are looking at a part that is taking a lot of tq loads and could flex a lot, causing funky pad wear issues, etc.

Going on 3 years with my Bob's brackets. I believe in the product, use the product, and am not afraid to tell people about it.

Are the corvette calipers the only ones you can use with this set up, or could you use stop tech, or bare ect...?
