New here and want to try AutoX

I have a 95 Z with some mods and I would love to try AutoX I have been reading the posts here and checked out the driving schools mentioned here as well. I am in Riverview, FL. Where is the next / nearest place I can try it out.

I have been drag racing for years and am getting tired of getting 5 or 6 7 sec rides in 4-5 hours I am planning on selling my drag car and putting the money into the Z.

I am also looking for someone that has a scanner or PC and cable that can check a few things on my car.

Thanks,

Ian

Where is Riverview?

There's a number of us who are regulars. Chuck and Jeff have been doing it longer than I have. I think I met Eric once or twice in his V6. Jason sometimes makes it out in his V8 and seems more aware of the local SCCA events @ Valencia.

We generally attend the Martin events. The next one is on December 14th, and will probably remain on the second weekend of each month. The day sometimes alternates throughout the year. The site is just NW of Orlando.

In autox, you'll probably see 3-4 40-60 second runs over the course of 4-5 hours.

I don't recall if the 95's have OBDI or -II. I have the equipment for my car, but for some reason I seem to think my scanner (AutoTap) only does OBD-II.

Thanks for the response. Riverview is south of Brandon on 301 and off of 75. Anyone got directions or a web site for Martin. The 95 is still ODB 1 If I recal.

You can check out the Martin site here.

The SCCA Central Florida schedule can be seen here. It looks like the Tampa region ran the last event of the year on October 26th and haven't updated the site with next years schedule yet.

Yeah its definetley worth trying out. I plan to get much more involved again. Becasue I plan to keep this car stock for a bit. And this is a sport that a stock car that really isn't that fast can compete, since its 85% driver, and they class you with similar people.

Not liek the drag strip where a person's budget, really helps how fast they are.

Unless it's a Cali car. They were OBDII.

What do you need to get started doing auto-xing? I've thought of taking the Vette out .. but I never really figured out just where to start ..

Bring cash, your helmet (or use your drivers license as collateral to rent one) and a willingness to learn!

If you come to one of Martin's events we'll show you the ropes. Show up at a monthly event and get an instructor to coach you in the car.

Yup. Looks like Jim has got you pretty well taken care of. The only thing I might add would be to make sure all your lugs are there and that your battery is secured. The MSCC (Martin Sports Car Club) normal rates are $25. You don't have to be a member. Ages 16 & 17 have to have a signed parental consent form. Women are always more than welcome too. They used to give a 50% discount to family members driving the same car. I'm pretty sure they still do. It's always free to just watch too. Helmet use is free if you don't have one.

Just don't expect to be that fast your first time out. It's a lot harder than it looks. It's hardest on the tires and brakes. If those aren't in good shape better get them replaced before competing. But I'm still running my 35,000 mile old factory pads and have never had a rotor warpage (or any other brake related) problem and I've been running it at least once a month since April of 2002. I don't baby them either.

If you do decide to come out let us know so we can make sure you find it okay and show you the ropes.
