Looking for LS1 or LT1 in Tampa area...

I'm looking for a car to replace my 96 TA that got totaled last week. Let me know if you're selling your car. I'm considering LS1s and LT1s...my main priority is condition and/or mileage. Looking for something that was "babied"...

Please post any autotrader.com links, etcs and/or pics and your price...I most likely can afford 2000 models and below...

So let me know what you got!

Thanks...

How about an LS2?... It's a cam and heads short of the monster LS6.

I live in Orlando, well... just east.

Tom. Nice car. LS2? You swapped one in? Heads and cam? Aren't LS2s 6.0L and LS6s, 5.7L?

Sorry, maybe I'm just confused....

Jeremy, I'm def leaning toward a later model LT1 or LS1...I'm assuming your friend's has typical miles (100K+) on it....

There's a nice looking LT1 Ram Air TA sitting on Hillsborough avenue says $6200 on the windshield. Car is red and paint looks the be in great shape from a drive by view. If you exit off I4 onto hillsborough it's on the right just as you come to the first stoplight at the casino.

Re: Looking for LS1 or LT1 in Tampa area...

Thanks, man that sounds like a sweet car. I actually just picked up a car on Monday, though. It's a 2000 Mustang GT! Peformance red, 5 speed, low miles.

It's not nearly as sexy, fast, or cool as an F-body but since I've been driving ONLY F-bodies since I was 16 (15 years now), I thought it might be a good time to change it up a bit...

Till the new Camaro comes out anyway ;-) Thanks for the tip, though, man.

The LS1, which your car has, is a cam and heads short of the LS6. Of course, that's only true if you have an '01+ LS1, which used the LS6 intake manifold. Oh, and those heads would have to be fully assembled, because the LS6 has different valves and stuff too.

The LS2 is a 6.0L engine making 400hp, and was never used in a Camaro (except the Concept). It can be found in '05 Corvettes, GTOs, SSRs, and Trailblazer SS's.

Anything will fit if you're willing to work hard enough for it. There were several significant changes for 98, but a lot of things still fit.

If you're talking about swapping the '98 LS1 engine into a 97, yes, it can be done. Budget about $4000 including the engine, and you had better either know a REALLY good car guy, or be one yourself. You could pay someone else to do it -- that'd be a couple grand extra in labor. Also be aware that you'd mostly be doing this for "coolness factor", and that there are probably better ways for you to upgrade your car.

Re: Looking for LS1 or LT1 in Tampa area...

Hey sorry it took so long to get this to ya. Phone number on the car is 813-918-4293. Paint looks pretty good from what I can tell with the exception of some clearcoat peeling on the hood. I couldn't see any body damage but I could not see the back of the car as it was inside a fence and no one was around. My mind is getting fuzzy but I believe it was a 96 or 97 (it's one of those two years). I'm heading home in a few minutes and will pass by it again so I'll post up later with the exact year. I have no idea of the condition of the interior or drivetrain but if your still interested I could take some extra time and stop by there when someone is there to get me into the car.

This may be a little late, but I just found this site tonight while preparing to sell my 2000 Z28 with about 47K miles...and Oh, by the way, I live in Tampa too.
It's got the Hurst 6-spd manual, Black Leather, etc. If you're still interested let me know with an email to: pweastman@yahoo.com
Catch you later,
Phil
