Angry I got a ticket

For 'failure to regard speed limit sign' or some bs...they dont call it speeding cus it's 90 dollars and 3 points on license instead of 155 dollars and 4 points on license, I was grateful to the cop for that.

I was doing about 10 mph over the limit cus I was running late getting back to school (classic story) - I was wondering if any of you guys know if this will increase my insurance...because someone told me that they're only notified if you're going 15 mph or more above the limit or something...can anyone confirm this?

And if my insurance DOES go up, if I take a course to get the points off my license (which isn't imperative - this is my first offense), will it bring my insurance back down? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give...

Damnit.

got to driving school and insurance won't even know about it.

drivng school isn't that bad, go to comedy central drivng school, or do it online, and play GTA3 and kill cops in between tests.

Don't go to driving school for 3 points. If you get snother ticket then go, and you'll still be at 3 points with no insurance penalties. But you only have either 3 or 5(don't remember) traffic courses you can take in your lifetime, so don't waste one on 3 points.

I highly recomend taking the class. That is pretty much the only way your driving record will remain clean. My brother was in the same boat a couple years back. He got a speeding ticket and just paid it. Only 3 points, right? Then he got hit by an idiot on I-75 and spun him into another car. She denied hitting him and since it was raining and both cars were red, there wasn't any visible evidence that she did. So he got 2 more tickets. I'm not sure what they were. But now he could only get one taken off by going to school. So now even after going to school, he's got 2 tickets and 6 points. If he would have gone to school for the first one, he still could have gone to school for one of the others. Then he'd just have 1 ticket and 3 points. He's, needles to say, paying through the nose for insurance now.

BTW - Florida no longer has a limit on the amount of times you can go to driving school in a lifetime.

good stuff, and some info on florida. don't fall for the "pay more than the ticket and it won't show up on your record" gig...it doesn't work.

any points on your license can be cause for a premium increase.

Well this is one way out of the ticket, if they gave you a ticket that is SMALLER then the crime you actually did, then you can take it to court and say that it did not happen. I know someone that did that, they got off it, but the cops followed the hell out of them for ever... They still do sometimes now.

I don't recommend it, not for 3 points. Do the school thing, best to not let insurance know anyhting they don't need to know.

A radar detector won't help me. On certain highways around here we have timed speed traps (radar detectors won't pick that up). I had a radar detector for about 2-3 weeks & got rid of it because on I-78 they mount these radar boxes on the orange digitial detour signs. It set my radar detector off all the time. As long as you remember your speeding and always look for cops you probably won't get a ticket. I cruise where its open (80-90), and slow down to 68-70 near areas of where a cop could possibly be hiding, its the only safe way not to get caught.

Do what i Always do.....take it to court and plead no contest. What will happen 99.9% of the time you will have to pay court costs and thats all....no points...nothing on the record....nothing. just the court fees.
I have gotten out of 11 speeding tickets by doing this...it works.
It is also exactly whta ticket clinics do....

Ken

Take my advice

Ken,

If you ever get a complete driving record, you'll notice that the tickets are still on there, they just have no points associated with them. In cases where you go to traffic school, they provide for a "sentence" of 'Adjudication withheld', whereas with the no contest, you get "Nolo Contendre" on the record.

It doesn't really matter (you get the same outcome, no points), unless you're in a situation where they hold any and all infractions against you (ie: police officer, pilot, etc).. and then I would much rather go for the total dropping of the ticket.

Chris
