The identity of young man who died while fleeing the Florida Highway Patrol remained unknown today, the morning after the fatal crash just outside the Orlando city limits.
The victim and driver Terrelle Tullis were ejected when their car flipped end over end after crashing through a fence on Conroy-Windermere Road, FHP spokeswoman Kim Miller said.
Tullis, 21, refused to stop and sped away when a trooper tried to stop him about 11:30 p.m. on Kirkman Road for driving a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro with a Florida tag no longer contained in the state licensing system, Miller said.
The crash happened a short while later after Trooper Wilfredo Febo lost sight of the car. Febo drove past the crash site without noticing the wreckage by a retention pond at the intersection of Conroy-Windermere and Turkey Lake roads, Miller said.
Tullis, who suffered minor injuries, has an extensive criminal record including an active warrant from the Orange County Sheriff's Office for violation of probation, according to FHP.
Corrections officers awaited Tullis' release this morning from Orlando Regional Medical Center to book him into the Orange County Jail on the outstanding arrest warrant.
Criminal charges are pending the outcome of a crash investigation, which also will determine if it involved a police pursuit, Miller said. FHP policy only permits troopers to pursue fleeing motorists if a violent felony is involved.

I don't know anything about the crash, but what about this...
"FHP policy only permits troopers to pursue fleeing motorists if a violent felony is involved."
Does this mean if they attempt to pull you over they can't chase you provided they were only pulling you over for speeding? That doesn't make sense. Maybe I read that wrong or something...

I'm sure they say that for publicity. But try it and you will be chased, caught and arrested. They'll just say they were attempting to overtake you like they did when the FHP Z28 crashed on I-4 "pursuing" the crotch rocket. They'll never say they were in pursuit though. God forbid. Geez Drew, I was just trying to get a rise out of you. Thanks for attempting to make me look like an *******. You knocked 98's, so I busted on you for it. That is all.
