broke a stud off the ypipe...what now?

i'm trying to change plugs n wires and decided it would be easier to access if i removed the ypipe on my 97Z. got 2 nuts off, the third one just snapped the stud in half...now how am i supposed to get it out?

I did the same thing recently, was thinking of just drilling out the old stud and putting in a regular nut and bolt.

i been beating mine with a hammer trying to break it lose but no success yet.
i can't get a drill up in there until i get that pipe down.

All I can think of is to try to take a screwdriver and hammer to it and just tap the screw through. You probably already thought of that though. Good luck! I wish I could help more.

You're gonna have to yank the manifold to drill out the screw in stud.....might as well buy headers at this point in time....this is exactly what happened to me.

I broke mine off on my stock setup, except mine wasn't on the y-pipe but on the manifold. I just took the manifold off and just heated the stud up and then screwed it out. The best would probably be to do the same and just pull it off. It took me an hour or 2 to pull it off, so not horrible. As for a new stud, they sell them at alot of parts stores.

Same exact thing happened to me last year, luckily there was still enough of the stud left for me to just put a new nut on it. No leaks so far.

well i guess we're gonna have to get some torches and try to get the stud out of the flange. i hope that works cause i really don't feel like taking those manifolds off to drill it out. it wouldn't bother me if i had the money for headers!

i just hope i don't break off anymore on the other side of the y-pipe to manifold flange!

Soak them with PB Blaster before you try to take them out. If you are not using any kind of penetrant, you are just asking for broken studs.

i ended up getting the driver's side part of the ypipe off no problem. i sprayed pb blaster on the nuts and just worked the nuts off.
i've got to get up early and fill up the tanks for the torches and get that stud out...
....if only a set of AS&M headers found themselves gift wrapped outside my garage in the morning...

i busted my stud on my manifold about 2 weeks ago... it was the first nut so we stopped at that point. so far its rusted on well enough so that it doesn't leak, and i actually got the same gas milage as before and my miss hasn't gotten any worse... only a matter of time before it leaks but by then hopefully i'll have cash for headers.

i get mine at autozone. i don't know if napa carries anything like that or not but if you have an autozone it's there where the WD-40 is at.

I snapped a stud on each side when I dropped my Y-pipe to gut my cat. Turns out WD40 is about useless

I managed to drill them out with the manifolds still on the car but it took forever and I was sore for days. I replaced em with a nut and bolt...my passenger side leaks a lil bit, but I haven't gotten around to tightening it more yet. If worst comes to worst, the leak will be gone when I do headers one of these years...
