Just got 396...need help
I just picked up my 396 from the shop that built it. The problem is that they put the heads on backwards and the holes for the coolant crossover are on the front. I tried and tried to get the plugs out of the back to put them on the front and I couldn't. I broke a couple of 1/4 in extentions and a ratchet. The problem is I thing I messed up the bolots too much for the shop to do anything about it and I don't want to be charged for it. I was wondering if there is anything I can do besided drilling and taping the holes back out. I will call the shop back tomorrow but I don't think they will do anything and I don't want to have to swith the heads and buy new gaskets. How inportant is the crossover and what happens if I dont use it and just plug the front holes???
Help would be greatly appreciated. I won't have my tranny done for another week so I got some time but I don't wan't to put it off till I forget about it.

PUT YOUR WRENCHES AWAY AND BRING BACK THE MOTOR.
I didn't think it was possible to even put them on backwards!
further more, i didn't think anyone could be stupid as to own a machine shop and do that!
i'd be worried bout my whole motor if they can't bolt heads on correctly
You cooling system is exactly that, a "system". If you remove the crossover tube, you will be breaking the cycle of the system and you are sure to burn something up. I've messed up the holes before, but the motor was in the car. I can't see where it should be that hard outside the car. My suggestion is to go to a hardware store or sears and get a "easy out". It is like a revese threaded screw. When you turn it to the left, it will dig into the plug. It will bottom out and should remove the plug.
