How long will a cat last without the air pump?

I have hooker LT's on my car now, and to avoid the hassle of getting emissions passed through more "creative" methods I want to just put a cat on my car and be done with it. But the one problem I have with that is I was always under the impression that the air pump is in place to keep the cat from wearing out faster. Is this true? How long will the cat last without an airpump? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

bah, it wont make that big a differance-
dont worry about it
its MAINLY there for initial start up emissions-
there are plenty of cars without air pumps (most actually)
