air pump removal?

i've got my air pump off right now since i'm changing water pumps and i was wondering what all i have to do to leave the air pump off? i went to bfranker's page and didn't see a guide for it...maybe i missed it though.
i'd appreciate any help, it would be nice to leave the thing off...it just looks so much more roomier with it out of there!

Your cat has to be removed or else it will clog up with out the air pump. Also a code will appear setting off the SES light which can be disabled with LT-1 edit or some problems. I took mine off too. You can also take off the huge bracket that holds it in place.

thanks Red_94Formula. my cats are still in place so i guess i'll be putting the air pump back on.

i was going to change plugs/wires too!...but boy i thought my 94Z28 was cramped--this 97 is insane! I don't see how it's even possible to do it without pulling the manifolds and ypipe off. i guess i'll wait till i can afford headers

Removing the AIR pump will not clog up your cat if your car is tuned properly. Heck....GM even sent out a serves memo instructing techs to remove them from the Impala SS.

It might work on a stock car but not a cammed cam.

HMM. I have to look into this a bit more. I have FLP cats that interchange with offroads but I rarley run the offroads unless I am at the track. This is the first time I heard no A.I.R. pump will hurt my cats.

Yeh, I don't understand this statement either. If an engine either stock or modded is running extremely rich, I could have a better time comprehending the logic. Please provide more info on your reasoning.

Again, It want hurt your cat if properly tuned . On stock or cammed your open loop cold start needs to be right. Increasing the idle speed is not a bad idea either. Ill try to find that memo on removeing the AIR from the Impala SS (its on the web somewhere).
