Is the rack and pinion for an LT1 F-body and LS1 F-body the same ? I was told the 93-97 and 98-2002 are different. Does anyone know for sure, or have an idea where I might find this information ?

 

Can't say for sure as I haven't had them side by side but the part numbers are different for 93-97 vs 98+

 

Then my guess would be that they are different. I was told the angle on the input shaft from the steering column was different, and most of the pictures I found, I couldn't tell. The reason I ask is there is a kit from BRP that allows you to upgrade a 1st Gen to rack & pinion, and includes a new 2002 rack and pinion. You can order it without for around $300 less, but need to send them the tie rod ends for modification. However, I keep seeing rack and pinions from 93-97 F-bodies going for $20 and under, and thought if I could get one I could save almost $300 for the upgrade. Guess I'll just keep searching for the 98+.
