porting for 58mm TB w/o removing intake

Brent did this, and had no problems. http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/96ss/58porting.htm

Anyone else tried it? One of my buddies said he did it, and spun a rod bearing shortly thereafter. Anytime I mention it to one of my other buddies they act like I'm crazy.

So I'm thinking if I take all the precautions with stuffing the intake full of rags, and having a friend hold the shopvac right next to the die grinder as it cuts...I should have no problems.

It's not that much more trouble to pull the intake. It can be done with no harm, but why risk it just to be able to leave the intake on? If you've not had your intake off, it may be leaking anyways. I say pull the intake to do it.

I had the intake off about 6 months ago, no leaks yet. I know it's not that bad to take it off...I'm just being lazy.

Darn, I thought you might be able to kill two birds with one stone by porting the intake while you had it off to fix the intake leak. If you do it with the intake on the car, make sure you get absolutely as much of the shavings out as you can. Unexpected rebuilds are no fun.

I get emails every so often from people who have used that page and no body thus far has written me telling me they think it caused problems. Like I mentioned on that page, I KNOW I had shavings left in there but since I had two engine builders telling me not to worry about it, I didn't. That was like 5 years ago. Car still runs great and still has the stock internal engine with the Vortech 7 psig blower. I don't drive it much but I've probably put 30,000 miles on it since the blower and 58mm throttle body install. That's quite a few miles for a Vortech car considering many blow theirs up in a couple years

The bottom line is... if you're not comfortable doing it with the intake on the car, don't do it.
