A/C Compressor Replace

Hello-

Had my daughter's car (3.8 v6 2000 Firebird) to Waterford Hills for the first time and cooked the ac compressor which has since cooked a belt on the drive home.

I need to get the car back on the road ASAP. I have a new compressor in hand. Can I install the compressor and hang the belt and leave the electrical disconnected until I am ready to swap out the drier and condenser?

Looking for some quick input. As long as the AC clutch is not engaged it should be ok - right?
