Air bag light on (yes did a search)
Air bag light on (yes did a search)
I have a 1996 camaro ss. I have owned the car for many years. The whole time I have owned the car the air bag light has been on. Yesterday I had a friend who is a mechanic hook his scanner up to it. The scanner does read the airbag codes. It came back with no codes and no history of codes stored. Yet the light is on. Had anyone else had a problem such as this. I am thinking about just cutting the wire to the light or removing the bulb but would rather fix the car properly.
Re: Air bag light on (yes did a search)
The DERM runs tests after key on. Indicator should blink 7 times when key is turned on (engine not started) and then go off - OR- blink 6 times when engine is started directly after key on and then go off. What does yours do ? If Air Bag (SIR) indicator comes on and stays on w/o blinking then DERM - Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module is not operational, fuse is blown or a cable is loose. The DERM runs diagnostics and displays codes and must be operational to retrieve DTC's from the system. If lamp is on you may be running w/o air bags.

I didnt pay attention when mech had the scanner hooked up. As far as everyday it just lights up and stays on constantly. I have checked the fuse in the past but Ill look again later today. Thanks for the suggestions.

Just got around to looking back at this post. When you turn the key on the light just comes on and stays on. I does not flash at all. I bought a scan tool that is suppost to read and reset the airbag. It says no codes for the airbag.
