making a coil wire, pls help

alright, we got a set of do it yourself wires for our racecar, and it has an old style distributor and doesn't need the coil wire, so I'm thinking of putting it on my car until I can get the time/money for a wire set. So, what I really need to know is if the terminal on the optispark is the same as a normal spark plug terminal (like the one thats on the coil). If not , should I just use the new wire w/ the old connectors? thanks

The opti terminals are different and have a male prong in the middle The boot/wire also "snaps in".

alright, well I took some of that 8mm wire and pulled the boot/connector off the of the opti end, and put a normal hei terminal/boot on the other end for the coil and hooked it up. Man what a difference! the old coil wire didn't even have any wire in it anymore, it was like hollow. I don't know how it was even running. but my 5000+ miss/backfire is gone now, I made 3-4 stop to 100 passes and had no trouble at all, shifted perectly and sounds great. cant wait to do the rest of my wire, because i'm sure they're just as messed up. btw, the old wire was about 3 feet long, and hand some random useless course, the new one is about 8" long.

i have a similiar question. i bought the MSD-32129 universal set for LT1. made all plug wires without any trouble. but they only supplied an extra spark plug boot and clamp for the coil wire??? is there a place to buy an extra HEI distrubutor boot?? or buy just a single coil wire????
thanks

You can buy single wires from the dealer or ACDelco supplier if you want to pay their price.

1993-1995 coil wire GM p/n 12096466
ACDelco part # 340R

1996-1997 coil wire GM p/n 12173578
ACDelco part # 346U

you can buy an OEM replacement from pretty much any part store, but god, those things are puny compared to the aftermarket wires
